I am trying a fresh install of High Sierra i bought a new ssd and its not showing up in disk util any ideas?

Make sure SATA mode is in AHCI.

Thanks for the reply but I have that set to AHCI already. Do i need to format the disk first it is straight out the box?

You might check your setting in the "View" menu of Disk Utility.
