I have a hankering to build a hackintosh powerhouse, but would like it to try on my aging (2008) but still very serviceable core 2 quad to gain some experience.

Motherboard is Foxcon G31 MX (Chipset Intel® G31 + ICH7)
http://www.foxconnchannel.com/ProductDetail.aspx?T=motherboard&U=en-us0000452
Bios: Phoenix award bios V6.00 pg

Graphics is Radeon HD 5450
Processor is Intel core 2 quad Q6600
4GB Ram

I've not been able to find any compatibility information for a system of this age - does anyone know if I have a chance with this - or should I not bother?

Thanks for any help.

OK - done a bit more research via google. Processor and chipset should be compatible with up to El-Capitan (Sierra needs SSE4.1 which the Q6600 does not have)

Now to check video card.

And I've found someone who's got an HD5450 working.

I'm going to give this a try. Not in expectation of getting it working, but as a learning vehicle in advance of building an up to date power house. I've downloaded El Capitan, and just ordered a 1TB SSd to use for this trial, after which, it'll become the boot drive for the new rig.

OK, that was fun - seems I have a success. Two evenings, and a morning - and everything is working. The graphics took the most time.

Sound, network, USB, graphics - all seems to be fine.
