Samsung SSD does not show up on iMac

Hi all,

I recently bought a Samsung 840 pro SSD to put in my iMac and use it for booting Mountain Lion and other programs. I installed it but nothing showed up. I've plugged the SSD in externally too but still nothing. I sent the drive back to Samsung and they said there was nothing wrong with it but sent me a new one anyway (good customer service)but I still can't get it to work.

It's driving me a bit daft now and I would appreciate any info on possible solutions or if I'm just being dumb and not doing a basic thing!!

You check it with System Utilities/Disk Utilities and see if you can format it?

Hey Eelhead,

Thanks for the reply!! I've managed to sort that now but I now have a new one, maybe you can help? I've cloned the SSD and put it into my iMac but it wouldn't let me boot up from that. I found out you need a bootloader but now I don't know which bootloader will work and then once chosen, how I put it on the SSD?
