Recover after crash OS

I have a backup on the USB external HDD and my OS got crashed and try to recover using Time Machine. I have booted the PC through MAC 10.6.8 CD and found Time Machine backup on the Utility menu. When I try to recover the from the external backup HDD but USB is not detecting at all. Please help!

If I were in your position I would try to fix the existing SL first. Can you be more specific about the crash and what you have tried to fix it before trying to restore from TM.

Can you get to the Chameleon/Chimera screen? If so can you boot with -x -v PCIRootUID=1.

Have you tried to startup using either iBoot or rBoot in your drive?

If you can get to the installation screen on your DVD, can you run disk utilities?
