Hello all together,

I haven't been active in this community but I still hope somebody can help me out.

I have just recently installed Ventura on my Build:
Asus Rog Strix Z390 I Gaming
Intel core I7 9700k
AMD RX 6700 XT
32 GB DDR4 3200 Ram

everything works flawless even the graphics card with the new NootRX fix.

But I often encounter kernel panics during normal use...

it can be after 5 min after restart or 2h...

this is the output:

i have attached my efi.
hopefully someone can help me...

cheers, soffix
normally have 2 kexts when using CPUFriend.kext

ACPI > Quirk > EnableWriteUnprotector is enabled/true in your config, it should be disabled/false.

As you are using a discrete GPU you don't need all those DeviceProperties for the UHD 630 IGPU in your config.plist. Especially as you have the IGPU Framebuffer set for an IGPU that would be used to drive a display. If you want to use the IGPU for Encoding and Decoding/QuickSync etc. even when using NootRX.kext then you need to change the Framebuffer for one that is empty/headless. So the entries in your DeviceProperties for the IGPU go from the first screenshot to the second (Headless Framebuffer for CFL IGPU).

Screenshot 2023-11-19 at 22.26.50.png Screenshot 2023-11-19 at 22.27.38.png

As @Feartech said, CPUFriend.kext doesn't work on its own. It requires a companion kext that contains the CPU data you want to use. Without the companion kext CPUFriend does nothing. As you have a Coffee Lake system I am not sure you really need CPUFriend. I don't on either of my Coffee Lake hacks.

You have Misc > Security > SecureBootModel set as Disabled. This is not correct. As you are using a iMac19,1 SMBIOS you should set this as 'Default'.

You have made a simple and common mistake, in that you have posted a copy of your EFI with the Serial Number readable in the config.plist. I would recommend you generate a new SMBIOS for your system due to this error on your part.

You will need to sign out of any Apple Services such as Messages, iCould, App Store etc. Use the ResetNvramEntry.efi driver from the OpenCore Boot screen before you boot in to macOS with the new SMBIOS.

Gigabyte Z390 motherboards have a CNVI M.2 connector for the built-in Intel WiFi/BT card. I am not sure if Asus use the same type of connector but if they do you may need to look at disabling this connector. As it is known to cause issues when booting macOS. Transferring the Intel AC 9560 WiFi/BT card to a PCIe Adapter card might help with this issue. Adding SSDT-No-CNVI.aml might also be required.

I don't read Chinese and the Comment section in your USBPorts.kext/Contents/Info.plist is written in Chinese. So I can't tell which if any of the USB ports is serving your Bluetooth module.

Your USBPorts.kext has 6 x ports set as USB2 with UsbConnector (0). However, your motherboard only has 2 x Physical USB2 ports on the rear I/O plate and 2 x Internal Header ports (single USB2 motherboard header).

Screenshot 2023-11-19 at 22.45.44.png USBPorts.kext/Contents/info.plist viewed in ProperTree plist editor.

So 4 of the 6 x ports are incorrectly set. It may be that 4 of the USB2 ports should be set as USB3 (3) as they are USB2 virtual ports served from a Physical USB3 port.

You have 3 x Internal USB ports with UsbConnector (255) this is the correct number, but given the errors with the USB2 ports, I would question the correctness of these ports too.

Getting the USB2 and USB3 ports wrong on its own can cause issues with your Hack. Specifically Sleep/Wake/Shutdown/instant Reboot and unexpected Kernel Panics.

You have some reading and further research to do. As well as fixing your USBPorts.kext before your can really say everything works flawlessly on your hack.

Thank you for your answer,
I tried to follow most of your steps,
now it runs smooth,
still haven't checked the usb ports.

no panic since yesterday, even hibernate works like a charm.

Sounds like a good start to completing your Hack's setup.

The USB configuration is often the hardest to get 100% correct for most users. But you have most of the work completed already, i.e. ports have been discovered and limited to a maximum of 15. So all you need do now is make sure they are set with the correct USB connector type.

Use this list as a guide to setting the UsbConnector type:
  • Only physical USB2 ports on the rear I/O plate (Black tang) should be set with Connector Type 'USB2' (0).
  • Any port served from the motherboard's USB2 header should be set with Connector Type 'Internal' (255).
  • The USB port served from the M.2 connector for the Bluetooth module should also be set with Connector Type 'Internal' (255).
  • Any USB3 port served from a USB3 header or USB3 physical port (Red or Blue tang) should be set with Connector Type 'USB3' (3).
  • Any USB2 virtual port served from a USB3 header or USB3 physical port should be set with Connector Type 'USB3' (3), to match the Physical port type.
  • The Type-C connector on the Rear I/O plate will provide a Type-c+Sw (9) port plus a virtual USB2 port, which if used/active should be set to match the physical port type, i.e. (9).
  • The Type-C header on the motherboard is likely to be a Type-C port without switch (10). This when tested is likely to show 2 x Type-C and 2 x USB2 virtual ports as being available from the single case front Type-C connector.
The way to identify whether a Type-C port is with switch (9) or without switch (10) is to do the following:
  • Insert a Type-C device in to the connector, note the port highlighted/activated.
  • Remove the Type-C device, flip it 180° and reinsert the device.
  • If a different USB port is highlighted/activated then it is a Type-c without switch port (10).
  • If the same port is highlighted/activated then it is a Type-c with switch (9).

i am so far modifying the ports... but I can't manage to get the Red USB 3 Ports included. everything else works

OK, looking at the image above I would edit your USBPorts.kext/Contents/info.plist as shown in the screenshot below.

Edits based on port discovery shown for Rear I/O and case front ports, plus logic on how USB ports are normally paired.
  1. HS01/SS01 may not be required, as you only have one external USB3 port.
  2. HS13 is set incorrectly, when set as USB2 (0).
  3. As you already discovered the only 2 x USB2 physical ports are HS05 and HS06.
  4. So HS13 needs to be changed but to what I don't know.
  5. HS05 (USB2) and HS08/SS08 (USB3) ports are not included in your USBPorts.kext.
  6. You may want to remove HS01, SS01 and HS13 from your setup and add HS05, HS08 & SS08 in their place.
Here is a clearer screenshot showing the USB ports on the rear I/O plate (as you discovered and I think they match up).

When you have test the Rear I/O plate ports with a Type-C and USB3 device, you may find they are not as shown as this is partly an educated guess, based on how the USB ports on my Z370 & Z390 motherboard are paired.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your help :)

after long work and reading I think I might have did it..
at least every port is functioning correct even if I insert USB 3.0 2.0 or USB C Sticks

If I read your notation on the image in post #6, HS09 is a virtual USB port served from the USB3 header, so it should be set as USB3, not Internal.

You have 19 ports activated in the USB configuration. This needs to be cut to 15, to keep within the Apple USB port limit.

Otherwise ports SS03, SS04, SS07 & SS08 will automatically be omitted from the setup. As macOS will cut any ports off after the first 15 have been activated.

I would drop HS01, HS02, HS11 and SS01 from the config, so it was only activating 15 ports.
