Quick question about the top shelf

Im currently in the process of modding my G5 and cant remember if we can reinstall the latching mechansim for the door and then, at a later date add the top shelf without removing the latching mechanism again?
Its been a while since I pulled it apart so I cant remember if they were independant of each other.

No, the latching mechansim is placed over the top shelf and needs to be removed if you want to reinstall the top shelf.
