Problems when attempting unibeast / ml -- hardware incompatible?

I am getting video after the initial boot but none just before it gets to the point where I can run Disk Utility. I am thinking that there is something not right in my build. I am using the following hardware:

MSI Z77A-G43 mb
Xeon E3-1230 V2 (ivy bridge i7 without video)
16gb (4x4gb) corsair vengeance ddr3
Evga gtx550ti
Corsair GT 90gb ssd

This configuration runs windows 7 x64 without any issues, so I don't think it is bad hardware, just something that mountain lion doesn't like. Any ideas?
