Try booting from the MacOs Install. That looks like the update. It is not another boot drive.

I have successfully removed the installer on the Clover Bootloader menu. Do you have any suggestions I should try to try updating from El Capitan to High Sierra based on my setup?

• My advice is to go sequentially from El Capitan to macOS Sierra to macOS HighSierra rather than a straight upgrade.
• This will ensure you will definitely have a system to fall back that is definite to work.
• macOS High Sierra 10.13.2 has been a difficult version for most.
