One area I'm definitely not in a place to talk to you about is editing and video card needs-- since I'm mostly doing stills at the moment.

That said, FCP on my system runs fine with 5Dmk2 1080p footage transcoded to Pro Res for editing short projects.

All from micro center. Everything was cheaper there. Saved me almost 300!!! Didn't have to sacrifice the video card AND got better ram, 3 x 4gb, so I can upgrade to 24gb if i needed in the future, which if happens the world should implode.

Thank you everyone. Going in sat to pick up the parts. Will prob need help setting it up but I'll be using this site as a reference. Only 1 HD for now, so I'll just put mac on it. And I still have a terrible old crt monitor BUT at least I get to set this baby up for now.

Glad to he able to help you save so much $$$.

One thing you will want, if you plan to overclock, is an after market cooler. My hyper 212+ is cheap/mid range and ran $27 or so-- definitely enough cooling at a super stable and easy 3.8 ghz.

Much much easier to install before you install the mobo in the case ... in fact you probably need to take the mobo out if you want to install later. Highly recommend this or another cooler... it will let you run your case fans slower and quietter. And i7 runs hot even at stock clocks under jobs like video editing.
