Comments

I recently finished this build and installed Catalina. I followed the steps laid out in the build section of TonyMacx86.com.

It took some fixing to get everything right but I am very happy with it now. I played Fortnite on it the other night, and it was screaming. I will be rendering some video soon and am looking forward to a much shorter render time.

NewEgg had a bundle price for the motherboard + CPU so I saved a bit of money by buying it there vs other sources.

These are the BIOS settings I changed:
Adv Frequency Setting > Extreme Memory Profile(XMP) > Profile 1 BIOS
Windows 8/10 Features > Other OS
Trusted Computing > Security Device Support > Disabled
USB Configuration > XHCI Hand-off > Enabled
Network Stack > Disabled
VT-d > Disabled
ErP > Enabled

Here are my MultiBeast settings:

I struggled because my EFI was not getting setup right on the NVMe. I eventually copied the EFI folder from the boot USB into the EFI partition on the NVMe. This allowed me to boot normally and stopped the prohibited symbol I kept getting on boot (if I didn't boot with my USB). Then I ran MultiBeast one last time and everything clicked.

Summary

Its a big upgrade from my 2013 Hackintosh, and I am loving it!!!

Thanks to TonyMac and the entire community. Special thanks to @cutzzz14 and @tedyun and many others for great posts that helped me through this build.

What Works
Audio
Dual Monitors (I haven't tried going up to 4)
Airplay
USB Webcam
Everything I have tried
Fast WIFI

What Does Not Work
I am not aware of anything not working yet
I don't have a Bluetooth card so I don't know if that would work or not
I haven't tried the Ethernet but I assume it works

Congratulations and thanks for the shout out!

Be sure to check out the updated information on my post. I found that the boot errors that I was getting (ie., the Apple logo would flash briefly, then the prohibited sign) was because I hadn't properly patched the framebuffer. The quick fix is to reset the CMOS or by disabling Internal Graphics in the BIOS.

If you disable the iGPU, Sidecar won't work. Also, the iGPU is used in some cases like video rendering. If you want the iGPU and the dGPU both enabled, to get a stable system you should patch the framebuffer. You can follow CaseySJ's guide HERE. The Gigabyte Z390M Gaming patch can be used to patch the Gaming X board (that's how I did it!).

If you're system intermittently gives boot errors, you can try those fixes!

Hi Otisred! I have almost the same configuration CPU, GPU (My mobo is Gigabyte Z390 I AORUS Pro Wifi) Can you attach and share your EFI folder ? Thanks in advance!

yo! I have problems with the same configuration (Gigabyte Z390 Gaming X , 32GB RAM, RX 580). I can copy the OS to the SSD. But, when it start to intall, the computer reboots (showing that remains 13 minutes). I don´t know why.

Keep choosing install until it is no longer a boot option. It reboots a few times during the install.

Hi, that no works...always reboots when remains 13 minutes.
