Hmmmm, i will be using wifi, but ethernet could come in handy at some point.....
But i would like to use HDMI, is that possible with a X58 ud5?
What do you mean matched set of 3 sticks?

Also wondering why a X58 ud5 is $100 more expensive......

RAM: X58 boards uses DDR3 RAM in actual triple-channel mode, i. e. you need a three-module kit.

Hey Flatfoot.

Thanks, but that still doesn't tell me anything.
I am a typical mac user......i dont know anything about pc's :)
So please forgive my ignorance.

I will try and research some more on ram.

No prob. Triple-channel means that speed is tripled by the system's writing to/reading from three RAM modules at once – similar to RAID0 with hard disks.
=> You have to install three identical RAM modules at a time in three RAM slots of the same colour (three are white, three are blue; those farther away from the CPU first).

This kit should fit, for example. This is CL7-RAM too, which is about the fastest you can get (there's also CL8 and CL9, which are a bit slower).

EDIT: To answer your question about the X58 board being more expensive: That's because the X58 chipset is more powerful than the P55 chipset; i. e. it supports 1366 socket CPUs in contrast to 1156 CPUs and triple-channel RAM in contrast to dual-channel RAM.

I have an old RME soundcard, HDSP9652 PCI. I can see the MOBO have some PCI slots. Will this card still work?

Cheers
Søren

Ok, went checking out components today.

Here's what i'm gonna get.

GA X58 UDR3 rev 1.0
Intel i7 930
Gigabyte GT 240 1gb
Kingston hyper X DDR 3 1600, or G skill DDR 3 1600, the g skille are slightly cheaper.
Coolermaster cabinet.

Redmax PSU 730 watt, or something like it.
CPU cooler, not sure yet.

I will propably go shopping next week, and start the install next weekend.

Any thoughts?

Are you sure you can get a GA-X58-UD3R rev 1.0? I have had a hard time finding one.

I've never heard of a Redmax PSU and can't find any info on it. You want to stay with a high quality power supply, so I would go with a Corsair or Seasonic.

I am not sure wether it rev 1 or 2. i will have to be sure of that.
I would think i can get a rev 1.
But isnt the biggest difference that rev 2 can't use ethernet.

I plan to use wifi......and i dont care about the onboard audio.

Hmmm, might have to find UD5.

Unfortunately i can't buy on Amazon, since i live in Bangkok.
But we have a big PC mall, where it's possible to get almost enything, and the prices are ok.
I compared prices, and i could save $60.- buying on Newegg, compared to locally.

Would the Gskill Ram be ok?
