I'm building my first hacintosch with a GA-x79-up5 mobo and a Xeon E5 2609.
I've installed Mavericks (with Unibeast). My system will only boot when i use the cpus=1 in the org.chameleon.Boot.plist. Other values won't work.

<dict>
<key>EthernetBuiltIn</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>
<string>No</string>
<key>IGPEnabler</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>Kernel</key>
<string>mach_kernel</string>
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>npci=0x2000 cpus=1</string>
<key>Legacy Logo</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>Instant Menu</key>
<string>Yes</string>
<key>UseKernelCache</key>
<string>Yes</string>
</dict>

Everything else is working!
After installing Adobe CC, i like to use all the 4 cores in after effects. What do i hev to do?

When booting the bootloader shows before the menu appears:

EBIOS read error 0x31
Block 0x0 Sector 0

Don't know if this has something to do with the cores. i appriciate any suggestion.

Sorry, I can't help with the CPU issue. But the EBIOS read error is harmless - it just means you have a card reader installed with USB Legacy support enabled in the BIOS, and Chimera is trying to read from the empty card slot(s).

ok, no suggestions.
I replaced the xeon with an i7-3930. Now mavericks support all the 6 cores.

With the Xeon proc installed; Adobe Indesign was crashing all the time. Now it's running smoothly..

So my advise is: do not use a xeon proc!

I don't think you can make a blanket "don't use Xeon" statement like that.

I've got a Xeon L5639 (LGA 1366 socket/X58)-- where all 6 cores clock to 3.7 Ghz simultaneously in Aperture, FCPX, and Adobe products.

Speed stepping works from 2.46 Ghz to 3.7 Ghz (12x to 18x multis). The only thing that's not working right is that this chip should turbo up to 2 cores to 4.1 Ghz (20x multi) for single/double threaded tasks. That isn't happening in Mavericks though it is working in Windows. Also not really an issue since I need all the cores to go to their max simultaneous overclock for my tasks... and that's running great.

I think the statement should be, "Xeon isn't as well supported, necessarily, as normal enthusiast chips." Of course, the X79 platform itself isn't as well supported as the mainstream boards!
