I work on Windows 10 PCs all the time that are running even large name brand security suites like McAfee and Norton
and they are still getting malware. Mostly when ignorant users download software that has malware bundled with it.
If you know what you are doing and avoid visiting dodgy websites then you can probably get by without something
like MBAM but most people will need it.

Yes, absolutely, kids go after those "free" game downloads all the time. They just don't know any better.
