Updating PB7 to GM this morning. Since reboot to installer is has been sitting on

busy timeout(0), (240s), kextd wait(0): 'AppleACPICPU'
busy timeout(1), (240s), kextd wait(0): 'AppleACPICPU'

for the last half hour. No drive activity light blink at all.

Addition of FakeSMC to Clover/kexts/other cured the problem. Now installing GM.

FakeSMC.kext always compulsory.
So when doing upgrades the one present in S/L/E or in L/E is not sufficient?
Then why not leave FakeSMC in the Clover/kexts and not bother with it in S/L or S/L/E?
Or do we need it in both places for different reasons?

You're booting the installer image. So what is on your system partition is not relevant/not used.

Then why not leave FakeSMC in the Clover/kexts and not bother with it in S/L or S/L/E?

Because for booting your normal system partition, it is better to avoid Clover injection.

Or do we need it in both places for different reasons?

Correct.
