Hello. First post here.

I'm building my first HackPro and I've read that the Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 is the safest bet when it comes to installing 10.6.5. Thing is, this motherboard is nowhere to be found here in Norway. No one carries it anymore. So with that, I'm now wondering if the Asus Rampage 3 Formula will work with OS X? I read on here that some people have gotten the GENE version of this board running, but I have an Obsidian 800D case (which dwarfs mini-atx haha) and can afford the standard ATX version.

The reason I'm going with this is because of price/performance. I'll be overclocking the 950 as high as possible (hoping for a 4 - 4.5GHz) with liquid cooling.

Specs:
Corsair Obsidian 800D
Corsair AX850 850W
Corsair Dominator DDR3-1600 12GB (6x2GB)
MSI GeForce 460 Hawk*
OCZ Vertex 2 60GB SSD**
Asus Rampage III Formula

*I might omit this. I have a 8800 GTS 640MB and I might have a GTX 260 lying around. If one of these works with 10.6.5, which I can't seem to find any info on (only for the 320 and 512MB versions of the 8800 GTS), I will omit the GPU. The 8800 GTS (oc'd) and my stock e6600 w/ 3gb of ram already runs Crysis on very high @ 1280x720 and high @ 1920x1080. Not that I ever game anymore except for Sims 3 for the girl...
**Is SSD worth it? I really want to Raid0 two of these but then I would lose TRIM. I think I might omit this SSD until next year. If I choose to go with liquid cooling I'm not going to be able to afford the SSD - which is why I'll be starting off with an Corsair H70 top-mounted, 2x extra 120mm fans up top, extra 140mm back, extra 140mm bottom. Should provide a nice airflow for OC.

-------------

TL;DR: Has anyone gotten the Rampage 3 Formula standard-ATX running 10.6.5?

The GA-EX58-UD5 was replaced by the GA-X58A-UD5 which adds USB 3.0 and SATA 3 support and the 889a codec is replaced with a 889. Making this a very safe bet.

Oh, so that motherboard works just fine like it's older brother? I wish more people updated http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL_10.6.5 with their configs. :)

Thanks for the info, by the way! Will read up on this boards OC abilities. Lovely quick reply, quicker than Insanelymac. :p
I have used the X58A-UD5 with a i7 950 and was able to OC over 4 GHz.

So I switched to the X58A-UD5. Sounds like a good motherboard.

Time to scour the 'net for geekbench scores of 4Ghz+ 950.

Hi all!
