Hi,

just short question:

I've read somewhere on the web (but in a pretty old thread) that with the 4850 (and other ATI 4XXX) dual monitor is not possible when you have 1 monitor connected via VGA (or DVI->VGA) and 1 monitor via DVI.

Source: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=177112

I tried it myself using LegacyATI4800controller.kext and the result was that whenever I had a monitor connected via DVI the VGA-monitor got no signal.

By the way: The VGA monitor only gets signal on DVI-Port2 (more far away from the mainboard).

I don't have 2 DVI-monitors, so I can't test that but I think that should work.

So, is my information correct that I can't use a VGA and a DVI monitor or are there any newer/better drivers?

Thanks!

Seems to be a very specific question. :D

It depends on if your VGA and DVI are on the same channel. There may be 3 ports on the back, but only 2 channels of output. Therefore that person may have had both their VGA and DVI on the same channel. Yours could work- but it's a matter of testing it. Hope this helps!

Thanks! Didn't know that.

Well, as I've written, I tested it and it didn't work. What I was hoping for was a solution through an other driver. But it seems that it's purely hardware-related.
