Freezes with this message right away when trying to boot Sierra from USB using Clover. Any ideas what to do?

Have you tried using OSXAptioFixDrv instead OSXAptioFix2Drv?

Did it work? Try hitting the space bar (just once) at clover screen, scroll down to safe mode, and if that doesn't work try open without Kexts and caches, it may get you in.
