It's possible, requires that you're using Apple HDA and not Voodoo for your audio.

You can always just connect a tiny speaker to your motherboard that will tell you when POST occurs. Will maybe cost a dollar or two and take 15 seconds to complete. I was happy to learn after my 1st build was done that I didn't have to listen to that annoying sound anymore. The only way
to avoid it was to turn the volume all the way down before shutdown and I'd always forget to do that.
