Hi guys, I did the majority of work on this mod, a while back (about 6-9 months ago). I got inspired by:
http://www.overclock.net/t/660371/motm-winner-macbane-apple-powermac-g4-mod/210#post_8843189
and my PowerMac G5 I have in my signiture.
So let's get started with this thread... First thing first the specs:
CPU: AMD Athlon 5350 APU
GPU: Nvidia GTS 640 2GB
RAM: 16 GB G.Skill Ares 1866MHz memory
MOBO: Gigabyte AM1M-H2P
SSD: Crucial M100 256GB
HDD: 160GB "forgotthename" HDD from the PowerMac G5 I had.
PSU: Antec Green EA-380W 80Plus Gold
Monitors: Crossover 271 LED-P and a LG 21"
Keyboard & Mice: Ducky Shine 3 Cherry MX brown KB + Delux 5$ Generic Mouse
Headphone: Bayerdynamics Custom One Pro
Mic: ModMic
Ok I admit these are nothing much. But this PC is used for work primarily. I need it to connect to a VPN and open Remote desktop, browsing and opening Word/Excel Documents. That is it... so it does the job done.
So here is the front of my baby:
I installed a 4xUSB 3.0 + Audio front panel board where the Floppy was supposed to be. Need to make a custom Black plate to glue to it... So that I can complete the front side.
Sides and Top.:
As you can see I painted even the top of the sidepanel and handle screws Black, and it makes nice contrast. Also the handles are 2 colors, White on the outside, and inside black...
Back:
I liked that I was able to keep the original back with the Antec PSU, since it was the only 80mm Fan PSU that had reasonable efficiency and would fit without modifying anything. Also I used http://www.thelaserhive.com/ 's conversion kit to make mount the MOBO and back panel. Love the white Mobo shield (had it powder painted white, also the PCIE brackets for the GPU/WIFI)
Insides:
I've painted the whole metal G4 case White, with only some accents black like, FAN blacket, Front Panel Bracket, ODD drive cap, HDD brackets... Had to make a custom Front Panel board, since I wanted the build to look professional and clean, and I hated the green PCB the original front panel had.
Well that is for now folks, and there are only a couple of things that grinds my gear and needs work on.
1) I need to get a custom Laser cut frame for the USB/Audio front panel.
2) Disassemble the PSU and replace/sleeve custom cables to tidy up the cables a bit. This will enable me to install all 5 HDD cages I can install.
P.S. Oh I forgot to mention that I didn't do any of the paint job, except for the small screws and stuff... I send the steel frame to be powder coded, while the plastic bits I sent to a paint shop specialized in painting plastic. Paint job alone cost me about 120 USD, but it's worth it
P.P.S Oh and here is my work desk I spend 8+ hours a day :
