Apple start-up sound - trademarked and downloadable

For people looking to mod their machines with the classic startup chime, you might be interested to note that it's now achieved US trademark status.

And that the US Patent & Trademark Office even supplies it as an MP3...

Does that mean that if I place this startup sound in my Hack with the tutorial here in the forum, it's illegal?

I don't know. I'm not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV...

But I think the protection is targeted against anyone selling/distributing this trademark and not acknowledging Apple who "own" it.
If you're not selling/distributing it then I don't think you'd have any problem.
But see the first paragraph of this post...

You can build it or use it for your own personal use but you cant make it to sell it.
