Radical suggestion here, sorry MacOS fans, but you could do what I did and convert your Skylake to a Windows 11 computer, which is what I did with my "Mini-ITX 2" computer listed below. I built it as a Hackintosh in 2016 with an nVidia GTX 750 TI OC graphics card, running High Sierra. But then Apple dropped nVidia at its next OS upgrade, forcing a change to an AMD RX 560 card. The RX 560 was a lesser card, and I wanted an RX 6400 which is not supported by the Mac OS, so i left the Mac OS (on this computer) and went to the dark side. WIN 11 "likes" the RX 6400, as you can see from the comparison below between the AMD RX 560 on the left) and AMD RX 6400 (on the right) under Windows 11.

What settings did you use? I'd like to see how the IGPU of the 7840HS compares to the RX 6400.

I imagine much higher than a 6400.

I tried looking for comparisons before purchasing my 7840HS box but couldn't find any... I was curious because a 6400 was on my mind before going for the 7840HS.

The benchmark settings shown in the images above were:
Language: English
Preset: Custom
API: OpenGL
Quality: High
Tessellation: Disabled
Stereo3D: Disabled
Multi-monitor: Disabled
Anti-aliasing: Off
Full Screen: (checked)
Resolution: System

Not quite 6400... But still very impressive for IGPU.
Those are very good numbers. Comparable to my computer at left ("Mini-ITX 4" below) running an RX 580 Nitro Plus under Sonoma 14.1.1.

Good for you.

But no thanks. Windows 11 is in my opinion a rubbish, if not the most rubbish, OS from Microsoft. That "Show More Options" crap that is enabled by default, for example, shows me that Microsoft has nothing better to do than just changes Windows for change's sake. And of course there is still no way to disable automatic updates from the GUI.

I hope I will never have to deal with this rubbish. The fact that my Windows PCs are "unsupported" is just fine.

I do still run Windows 7 / Windows 8.1 / Windows 10 1809 LTSC / Windows Server 2012 R2 / Windows Server 2019 on my Windows PCs. Just not Windows 11.
