FYI: Just got the following from Amazon about the recall:

Greetings from Amazon.com.

Intel Corporation is voluntarily recalling Second Generation Intel Core processors with Intel 6 Series Cougar Point. Our records indicate that you have purchased one of the items listed in this recall through the Amazon.com website.

The recall involves the Intel 6 Series, code-named Cougar Point, utilized in PCs with Intel's latest Second Generation Intel Core processors, code-named Sandy Bridge.

In some cases, the Serial-ATA (SATA) ports within the chipsets may degrade over time, potentially impacting the performance or functionality of SATA-linked devices such as hard disk drives and DVD-drives. There is no safety concern associated with this recall.

For more information customers should contact Intel at 1-916-377-7000 or visit http://www.intel.com/support/feedback.htm?group=chipset

Re: Amazon Email about Sandy Bridge Recall

Ok- just got off the phone with Amazon- the deal is that you can get a return/refund, but they're not exchanging the old SB boards for the new ones. But they're sending return shipping stickers, and will do a full return.

Now to think- do I want a different motherboard?

I'm really glad I bought from newegg. Originally I decided I wasn't going to get a new board because it wasn't worth the hassle. But they actually sent me the new board while letting me keep my system running, giving me 30 days to send back the old board. They even shipped it overnight and are paying for the return shipping. I had no idea this kind of customer service still existed.

The funny thing is the board now has a B3 added to the name and the box features wayyyyyy less Intel Chipset logos. Actually there is only one tiny logo on the front. Guess they really want to create distinction between the old defective boards and the new ones.

Now I feel like I should really put all these extra SATA ports to use.
