Has anyone tried installing SL on an Intel Core i3-3225, GA-H77-DS3H setup using an emulator or virtual box like VirtualBox? Theoretically would we be able to install SL from retail disk, upgrade SL to get app store, prepare a Unibeast USB flash drive, download ML from the app store and burn it to disk. When that's all done, get out of the virtual machine and do UniBeast. Also, is it only the Z77 board that's not supported in SL or is the H77 board the same?

Hello,

Yes, I am currently trying to install SL on Virtual Box on... my MacBook Pro running ML.
And apparently, it will not be plug and play :)

I will post here if I manage to do something.

the intel cpu you have is Ivy Bridge - this is one of the problems - the second one is that chipset on the MB, the Intel H77
both of these are not covered in the standard Apple "Mach_Kernel" that is on the SL 10.6 dvd.

Suggest you use GOOGLE to do some search's on this topic and see what turns up!

Now if you do get it running (and do tell) - the other big hurdle is that you need to login to the Apple App store to get the download file to make that UNIBEAST drive. This has been another hurdle to get over and presents another set of issues that have yet to be addressed.

I will try the method I found and get back here if it's successful.

Sorry for the link about the success of an install that went to another site. Won't do it again.

scotto - do read the FAQ for this site - thats what the moderators inforce - we can speak it but not at length ( just in passing ) we cant post it without it being deleted.
We use the TonyMacX86 methods and tools to Buld hacks from Legal Sources and cant talk about sites that have hacked / illegal distributions.

success! yay! have installed SL on VM and updated to 10.6.8 with no problem. I have the app store but haven't downloaded ML yet because I am not sure if that is the path that I want to go. I have found ways to run SL on Ivy so I might stay with that but will be playing with this to see if I can download ML from the app store and create an install disk for the rest of the helpless peeps here who are stuck.

will update ...

Great that you have it up and you didn't have to use the Virtual methods -

Do read this link before making a 'Public" comment in the TonyMacX86 forum .... http://www.tonymacx86.com/faq.php

We can only post/ comment on the TMX86 methods and not other ways which may have linked Illegal Apple OS - methods on their sites.....

But good job ....

News Flash ......

We have a new iBoot cd for Ivy Bridge - that supports the Ivy Bridge line of CPU's and this should allow you to get to install SL and then allow You to get to the APP store an download - make - and install a UniBeast flash Drive. Its not intended for you to run SL on your hardware perminatley though.
