Motherboard
Gigabyte GA-H87-D3H
CPU
i7-4770K
Graphics
GTX 760
I have started the following build:
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H87-D3H
Processor: Intel Quad Core i7-4770
Graphics Card: EVGA GTX 760
Solid State HD (OSx/Applications): Samsung EVO840 250gb
Ram: Corsair Vengeance 32gb
Storage Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 2Tb
Optical drive: LiteOn
PSU: Corsair CXM500W modular
Case: Corsair Carbide 500R

The plan is to install with Snow Leopard retail install disc 10.6.3 then upgrade to 10.6.8 and download my pre-purchased copy of Mountain Lion. I am following the guide and trying to install 10.6.3 I have iBoot Haswell 1.0.1 and am getting as far as swapping the discs over and getting to the actual install of 10.6.3 after single partitioning the SSD with Snow Leopard name. Then while it installs gets to 17 minutes remaining then returns error "Install Failed. OS X could not be installed on your computer" Please restart your computer.

Has anyone got any advice please.

First off welcome ...
THe Guides you mention were written before Haswell was introduced and this newer hardware causes problems and needs to be modified.
Some links you should read.
http://www.tonymacx86.com/snow-leop...os-x-10-6-snow-leopard-haswell-based-pcs.html

First off you will need to setup the hardware w internal video and remove the video card for a Snow Leo install - no video support for newer cards when using SL.

Set the video to internal and video ram to 64 megs in bios. We use either HDMI or DVI for video connections no VGA.

Several users have posted their story's on their build and you can read them for some information. Search by the model of the motherboard.

Remove any optional cards that your planning to use and boot w the iBOOT HASWELL CD.
We will use the network port on the motherboard for net access so plan accordingly.
We will boot from this cd throughout the SNow Leo stage. We do not RUN MULTIBEAST as listed in the Guides.

Boot w iBoot Haswell using the following boot commands. ( these are used throughout the build process).
-v PCIRootUID=0 GraphicsEnabler=No

Then prepare your SSD as per the guide. using the Retail SNow Leo DVD.

Once prepaired then start install of the Snow Leo from the DVD. As mentioned in the Guides

IF your bios settings are correct it should install OSX SL to the SSD. You will reboot and then install the Apple Combo update for 10.6.8 which you should be able to download from Apple via the network on your hack w Safari.
INstall this and then ONLY THIS TIME Run Apple Software UPDATE... this will list several programs that have patches for it
From Security patches or updates to program updates.

We are only interested in the updates for JAVA and for SAFARI - ONLY. Download and install these, once these are done then install Apple Software Update ver 1.0
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1512

Then reboot. At this point you should be able to get to the Apple Store and download OSX Mavericks as well as the UNIBEAST program and MULTIBEAST for MAVERICKS.

We use these as explained in this link
http://www.tonymacx86.com/guidebeast.php

WARNING at no point while we are on Snow Leo do we use the Snow Leo MultiBeast program - this is not required as you have HASWELL hardware and will not help or work w this hardware....
Even though the guides mention it we dont use it.

PS the correct version of OSX Snow Leo is the retail version which Apple still sells. This DVD is White w the picture of a Snow Cat on it. If your Snow Leo DVD is Grey or another color then this is not a retail DVD and will give you the errors you are experiencing.

Hi Toten
Thanks for the reply.
This is what i get when i run the boot commands.

DSC_0891.jpgDSC_0892.jpgDSC_0893.jpg

I have tried using other BIOS that have worked for others but still get this. I have also updated the BIOS to F6 as Ryan had success on his build but still the same. Monitor is connected by DVI-D straight to MBO no Graphics card installed.
Hoping you can help me out with this one.
Also I am planning to connect to LAN once i've installed SL 10.6.3 doing the usual connect to internet, or do i need to set these up in the BIOS before install 10.6.3.

Thank you huge amounts in advance.
Dan

Dan you may want to add to the command line -v PCIRootUID=0 GraphicsEnabler=No
this option of acpi=off

this should turn off the need for the kernel to load the acpi kext .

This situation could be problem w one of the BIOS switches ... or that we dont have the power managment set to S3

thanks for the reply, tried that still not working, same error, I must be doing something wrong. All i want to do is install 10.6.3 to upgrade to 10.6.8. This is driving me crazy. There doesn't seem to be any continuity other people seem to be hit and hoping with settings, I have tried the more common ones that have worked.
With this boot commands is this the way to check to see if my build is set up ready for an appropriate install of 10.6.3.
Cheers

You may want to read this link as one of our users has posted his success.

To add, am i right in thinking that i don't put in the snow leopard dvd until i get these boot commands to return without error, then when they do i'll swap out the iboot haswell and put in the retail 10.6.3 dvd press space bar and enter the prompts again to then successfully install os X?

Hi TotenThanks for the link, I had read that one before but they aren't using iboot Haswell, should I swap. Also this is what I am getting now.
I also see on other sites people get the possible 4 arcs for ram problems, i only have 2 installed at the moment, I have to install in pairs and this build wouldn't turn on without ram installed.

The way it has worked for most users without to many issues is to
Power on the computer -Open the DVD drive insert the CD iBOOT Media and press the Key on the Keyboard (boot key) to select boot screen (where you want to BIOS to load or Boot from.)

Now if this is to fast or your one handed like me - you can press the Boot key which stops the BIOS from loading from a default location such as a C Drive - and then insert the CD iBOOT media - wait for drive to be ready and then select the DVD from the Boot Menu!

This should start the load of IBoot from the CD - not much appears on the screen.

Once done and the DVD light is off - the screen should have the TMX icon as well as icons for other hard drives you have in your system!

At this point we remove the iBOOT CD and insert the Apple OSX Snow Leopard installer. The DVD will not read the new MEdia and the Screen Icons will not change.

Then we press function key PF5 on the Keyboard which tells the computer to re-read what was inserted into the DVD drive - the DVD light should go on and search the DVD you inserted, if its reading it then the screen on the monitor will change from the TCX icon to a white DVD symbol along with your hard Drives Icons.

At this point the Apple OSX icon should be highlighted (this can be changed by pressing the left right arrow keys) we want the OSX icon to be selected as iBOOT is made for OSX.

At this Point we enter the Boot up command switches we have been talking about. And we press the spacebar to get the command line prompt - and then type the commands into this prompt and press the return key (enter) on the Keyboard.

IF all is working then we should see lines of text scrolling on the screen from the install logger from OSX - this is normal. If we do not enter the command switch (-v ) then we get the default GUI screen the OSX uses for this purpose and we have no way of seeing whats happening.

If the moon and the stars are aligned and we have done our homework we should get to a point where the scrolling of text stops and the OSX GUI comes on and the OSX Installer screen will appear which will enable us to prepare our Hard Drive for the install of OSX.

If you have haswell Motherboard and CPU then please use the Haswell iBOOT cd.

As to the ram - iBoot will only use 4 GB of ram no matter how much you have installed - this was added to the process so as to not complicate the users life with removing and re-installing ram.
So if you have two pairs of ram go ahead and install this or you can only install a pair and then install the others later.
So if you have 2x8 GB ram dimms which is 16GB just install the pair - you do not need to purchase 4GB dimms just to install.

Why this feature was added to iBOOT - cause if you install ram backwards you can break your motherboard ram sockets.

Been there, done that, Got the T-shirt...Next!
Lesson learned
Computers DO not need a hammer or mallet to build. (Or Should Not)
