    Installer hangs after Apple

I now managed to safe-boot into the working partition that I ran updatehelper on. I managed to upgrade to 10.6.8, sort of. I ran the combo update, didn't reboot, and ran Multibeast. Unfortunately, it won't boot this upgraded partition - The Apple will show, the thing spin a little, and then shut...

    Installer hangs after Apple

I just booted fine with the suggested <key>GenerateCStates</key> <string>Yes</string> <key>GeneratePStates</key> <string>Yes</string> Let's see where I can go from here.

    Installer hangs after Apple

...würde ich auch gerne machen, nur komme ich nicht in den installer - wie üblich geht da nach dem grauen Apple Logo nichts mehr, das Ding stellt sich einfach aus. Und jetzt muß ich schon wieder über's Wochenende weg. Yeah, FakeSMC is installed...which might explain the presence of Intel...

    Installer hangs after Apple

There are hundreds of kexts in System/library/Extensions, yes... the ones I mentioned aove were only the ones in /Extras/Extensions. And weird, what with the IntelThermal - no idea where it comes from... :/

    Installer hangs after Apple

    so, weird: I don't have VoodooPowerManagement anywhere...which means I can't remove it either. Here are the extensions that are in /Extra/Extensions, maybe they'll show you something I don't see: ACPIMonitor.kext AHCI_3rdParty_SATA.kext ALC8xxHDA.kext EvOreboot.kext FakeSMC.kext...

    Installer hangs after Apple

Herr Nachbar, that makes sense! I'll try that as soon as I can... and I'll read up on DSDT as well. It would be nice to have a working Lion on my Tower, I've gotten so used to it on my MB Air... so there's hope after all. Thanks!

    Installer hangs after Apple

I had already set BIOS back to stock, it's all zeroed, but still doesn't make a difference. Maybe I have to remove 3 out of the 4 RAM bars (4GB each)? That would suck, but yeah. I'm wondering whether i'm making some fundamental mistake - I mean, how come i can't even boot iBoot /rBoot etc? I...

    Installer hangs after Apple

...so here I am again. Still at square one, for what it's worth. Still unable to upgrade to even 10.6.8. Any leads will be greatly appreciated. Karracho, did you come up with a zündende Idee perchance?

    Installer hangs after Apple

that's exactly it (sorry if I'm being unclear) I just now managed to recover that IOPlatformfamily.kext (which is the kext that apparently gets deleted by UpdateHelper), and put it back to where it was. it seems to do the trick, to just get back to normal, but I gotta double check. Fingers...

    Installer hangs after Apple

    Installer hangs after Apple

...still talking to myself here, but I'll just copy my bootflags from my working 10.6.7 install. Maybe someone can see something I don't. Does, for instance, arch=i386 something to do with it? It runs in 64bit though. Weird. <key>Kernel</key> <string>mach_kernel</string> <key>Kernel...

    Installer hangs after Apple

no matter what I do, it just keeps turning off. so odd. BIOS is set to AHCI, Turbo is off, I don't know what else it could be...and i don't want to be stuck at 10.6.7 for the rest of time... :/

    Installer hangs after Apple

Thanks for your reply. I tried it all, but no dice. I tried both with a USB stick installation and with an installer partition, but I always get to see the grey Apple, the wheel turns for about 10 seconds, and then the screen goes black. I really don't know what to do :banghead:

    Installer hangs after Apple

Hello there, I'm trying to upgrade from 10.6.7 to Lion, and I've tried so many things to get that damn installer to boot, but it just won't. I've tried following various guides, installing via the Installer partition, USB, what have you -whenever I get into the installer, I see the Apple logo...

No boot in 64 bits mode

...I might have the same problem. Can't run in 64bit, have Parallels installed. Does that mean that I can never run Parallels anymore? Did you reinstall, or just not bother? I wanna go Lion, but I just found out I'm still in 32Bit.. :/

ah, ok! that should do it...thanks!

changed boot.plist to arch=x86_64, now no booting

if it's any help for someone, got it to boot again by typing "arch=x386" at the chimera stage, and now, at least that's fine. Why Chimera doesn't see the iBoot CD however, is beyond me. Anyway, the worst has been averted for now, I keep trying.. :P

changed boot.plist to arch=x86_64, now no booting

...even tried rBoot, but Chimera is only able to recognize the regular Boot drive, and won't boot correctly off of it. damn...

changed boot.plist to arch=x86_64, now no booting

I burned an iBoot CD right before, latest version, but it doesn't see it :/ I'll try once more. But in case I get that to work, how do I proceed from there?
