steelsam's theory of Thunderbolt functionality on GA-Z87X-UD5-TH (and other TB boards?)

@B-San Glad you got TB up and running on your system! And yea, I experimented with the t-bolt kexts too. I think that one of them in particular causes some issue with recognizing a t-bolt drive on startup (I think ThunderboltNHI.kext or something). So you can either remove just that one or all...

steelsam's theory of Thunderbolt functionality on GA-Z87X-UD5-TH (and other TB boards?)

@samtimbaud Hmm... there are a lot of reasons that you could be getting a kernel panic. Is there a particular reason why you need the 5.1 definition? I think 3.1 should work just fine. @davidmoffitt In my experience, you only need to install Windows, run it once, and that is it. On one of my...

I don't know if it matters but I happen to have Windows installed on its own disk.

Gigabyte Z87X UD5 TH Thunderbolt not working

My wifi card works very well - I didn't bother with BT though because I already had a little USB adapter working. Check out Kangaroos post for how to. His is a few posts down. @kangaroos - what memory sticks did you end up going with?

steelsam's theory of Thunderbolt functionality on GA-Z87X-UD5-TH (and other TB boards?)

I don't think I said anything about loading Thunderbolt kexts from a Macbook Pro. I removed all of those kexts from System/Library/Extensions. Also, in my BIOS, I think I have Ignore Thunderbolt Option Rom Disabled and Security Level set as Unique ID. Not sure if either of those matter but it's...

steelsam's theory of Thunderbolt functionality on GA-Z87X-UD5-TH (and other TB boards?)

I'm not really sure what you're saying here. Are you saying Windows recognized the drive through PCIE bridges or not? Because you also say that you weren't able to see it. For one thing, I'm using ML - not Mavericks and Windows 7 - not Windows 8. Although, some folks have reported they got TB...

Look in System/Library/Extensions - there should be 6 Thunderbolt kexts.

Gigabyte Z87X UD5 TH Thunderbolt not working

I have no idea how Windows is affecting the situation - maybe it alters how the motherboard presents its hardware during the initial boot process? That could be completely wrong... just guessing here. I'm using ML 10.8.5 stevep314, I haven't used a Thunderbolt Display so I don't think I'll be...

steelsam's theory of Thunderbolt functionality on GA-Z87X-UD5-TH (and other TB boards?)

I have not tried disconnecting the Windows drive yet - that would be interesting to see what happens. I've got an 850W power supply though so I'm not sure I will test that out as it's not consuming much resources.

steelsam's theory of Thunderbolt functionality on GA-Z87X-UD5-TH (and other TB boards?)

I've been trying to get the Thunderbolt ports working on my Z87X-UD5-TH for about a week and I think I've come across something worth sharing. A few months ago, I built a Hackintosh using the Z77X-UP4-TH and it has fully functioning TB ports (no hot swap as usual). What was interesting though...

Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD5-TH Now Available - Dual Thunderbolt 1.0 ports

I've been trying to figure out how to get the thunderbolt ports functional on the Z87X-UD5-TH over the past week or so. Fortunately, I believe I've figured out how to do so: you need a Windows installation. If you attach the device, boot into Windows, have windows recognize the PCIE Bridge...

Gigabyte Z87X UD5 TH Thunderbolt not working

Yea, I've heard about the 4 stick RAM issues too - let me know how yours goes. I'm going on about 15 hours uptime with no freezes. I also noticed that my previous freezes occurred during long data transfer times from a firewire back up drive. Just fyi, not sure if it was coincidence or not...

    GA-Z87X-UD7 TH available mid September

Thanks for the response genzai. I agree that I don't see why Windows would change anything BUT that is a difference between my up4-th and ud5-th systems and up4=working, ud5=not working. Plus, another user had claimed that he needed to have Windows installed to have t-bolt work. Is it possible...

    GA-Z87X-UD7 TH available mid September

Hey genzai, on your z77x-up5-th, have you A) been using the thunderbolt ports successfully? and B) do you have a windows partition/hard drive installed on that system? Or, can anyone confirm that they have been using thunderbolt with storage devices (on any board) without a windows partition/drive?

Conflicted Video Editor/Colourist - Appreciate any help

I have the z87x-ud5-th (as well as a z77x-up4-th) and I agree with what everyone is pretty much saying here. If you're willing to mess with them a bit (sounds like you are), these set ups can be quite awesome for post production. I use them everyday as such. However, I can confirm that I haven't...
