No this can't work. You mean the "Target Display Mode" which is only working with real iMacs. This dont work with MacBooks. You can only connect an MacBook or every other supported device ( Mac mini, Mac Pro and PCs with displayport output ) to an iMac. Not vice versa.

I think that is impossible because your TV has something like an standby handshake with the GFX. Just try to unplug you TV complete with an switch if you don't use it. I don't know another method :D
