I'm considering this setup also. I'm wondering what the cheapest graphics card with functional HDMI+Audio is (perhaps a GT610) to pair with this.. I was considdering a small SSD and a Large platter drive and using it as a media server/HTMAC. I wonder if it has the power to run Air Video server...

Unfortunately the audio requires a hacked KExt or VOODOOhda to work.

I'm not using any thunderbolt, but I've seen several reports that it works but isn't hot plug. I've got a gt620 which works well. Audio working with a hacked hdaudio and dsdt mod. Also hdmi audio with a dsdt hack. I'm very pleased with it.

How far have you got? Have you made the bootable USB with unibeast and booted from it?

Make sure you remove VoodooHDA and HDA disabler if you're using that. otherwise you'll get KP.

Attached are my dsdt.aml and modified AppleHDA. With this I have onboard audio working and HDMI audio on my GT640. No VoodooHDA! My front USB 3.0 ports seem fine, I haven't tried sleep since 10.8.3 update. No guarantees it will work on your setup but its pretty close to mine.

It shows the Dolby pro-logic as opposed to the Dolby digital. There is no (encoded output) to chose from in the VLC audio devices menu which I seem to recall there being on my old Mac Pro and MacBook.

Gave that a go and there's no indication I have passthrough. I seem to remember ther being an additional output in the vlc audio devices list. Or am I looking in the wrong place?

If I put the original applehda KExt back, shoud hdmi audio out work with passthrough, if so could I re patch it to get my vt2021 functional and keep the passthrough? I've tried a couple of other patched applehda Kexts and the passthrough seems not to be present. I.E. audio device selection in...

Sorry, I thought you were going to do something with the IOReg, I must have misunderstood. Im still unable to get the Audio out of the HDMI on my GT640. Are there some further steps I need to take? Ben.

Option 1 sounds good. I need the onboard audio and HDMI on the GT640 to work if its possible. Is there a modification I can make to the voodoohda KExt so it sees my gt640's hdmi audio? It compiles OK until I add in the bits that are for enabling the hdmi audio. I'll re try it tomorrow and see...
