Im not sure I understand what does the boot flag -f (NOT -F capital f) do..?
Recently, I am able to get my sign on screen after having to enter the flag -f.
I use Chameleon on 10.8.5 OS X

Lately, I've been having to perform a Kernel Boot flag " -f " while booting to get into the graphical sign on screen.
What exactly does this -f command do?
(a) bypass the /extra folder (chameleon)
(b) do not load /system/library/extension
(c) or ?????
