Perhaps the new multibeast update will fix it. If anyone cares I will post results after I backup my newly created Windows 7 setup. In truth Windows is pretty good on a desktop environment. Quite surprised.

I'm in the same boat (well looking at i5's). From what I gather it's a relatively safe bet that OS X will support Ivy Bridge CPUs, but no one knows whether or not we will have to wait for Mountain Lion for native support.

If the HDD's are in FAT32 you will have no worries reading/writing them from within OS X. If however it is in NTFS you will need to download some third party software to do this. Long term your best bet would be to format the existing drives into exFAT if you need compatibility of large files...
