    Sandy Bridge Gigabyte BIOS Updates

I found that while a thumb drive could not be read, a flash card reader that I use to get photos off of compact flash cards did work. Also, a fat32 partition on a usb 2.0 drive worked.

    380 watt PSU too low?

An i5-2600k overclocked draws about 170 watts at the wall, or around 150 DC. That is with a typical graphics card idle. While gaming, you will need to add for the graphics card under load. For a 460, that is another 120 watts at the wall. That puts total DC at around 240 watts, which should...

GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3, sleep, BT, wake up = success

Dont use the F3 bios. There is a bug that will cause an overclocked i5-2500k to return to a 33 multiplier when the macine goes to sleep. F2 bios works fine. DSDT from autopatcher works better than the one I downloaded here. Just follow Gordo's guide for installation using the genuine Realtek...

Different USB 3.0 Controllers on Some Z68 Motherboards

    Asus or Gigabyte?

I am on my second Gigabyte hackintosh. Gigabyte is well supported around here. The tools that are available, Multibeast, iBoot, and bridgehelper work great. You could build around an Asus board, but it is more difficult and requires a lot of technical skill.

    SB Motherboard Swap

I have audio with the autopatcher DSDT and the the non DSDT audio enabler is not being used. All I can say is that buggy bios cost me a lot of time.

    SB Motherboard Swap

Minor update: Power measured with the kill a watt is slightly lower now and idle temps are a few degrees C lower as well. Machine ran 2.5 hours of prime 95 with no voltage offset at slightly lower temps than yesterday and is now stable at 43 multiplier. Geekbench: 12075 DSDT downloaded here...

    SB Motherboard Swap

After spending way too much time on it, I reverted to the F2 bios that shipped with the board and made the most minimal changes possible. AHCI, 64-bit, multiplier raised and turned off the full screen boot, nothing else. The problem went away and the overclock sticks after a sleep. The F3...

    SB Motherboard Swap

43 multiplier was not stable. After waking from sleep, turbo modes are disabled and geekbench drops to 9700, was 11800 before sleep. Have updated to 10.7.4 kernel and some power kexts from the iMac 10.6.7 update, but no change. any ideas?

Gigabyte z68ma-d2h-b3,no sound, no usb after wake from sleep

From the sound of it, you need DSDT. One is available for your MB. My system is similar, and I am not having the same problems as you. Probably you should delete your extras folder and run Multibeast in the DSDT mode. Keep iBoot around, just in case.

    SB Motherboard Swap

Running now with a 43 multiplier and a -.05 voltage offset for 1.296 V core. These numbers were used by Guru3d to OC a 2600k. Testing now with Prime95 on the 2500K but this is actually conservative as the i5 lacks the heat generating hyper threading option. Geekbench is at 12050. CPU temps...

    SB Motherboard Swap

My old system was a P55 with an i5-750. I locally purchased a Gigabyte Z68MA-D2H-B3 motherboard and an i5-2500K for about $300 plus tax. Prior to doing the swap software was upgraded to Tony's latest version of Chimera, bridge helper and all the latest fakeSMC. Prior to shutdown, I removed...

    Hack Keyboard

I went over to Microcenter today to look for a new keyboard. My $10 Logitech has not been cutting it lately. They had a McAlly ikeyslim for $20. It is a Mac style USB wired keyboard finished in white plastic. The keys have a good feel and everything is where it is supposed to be. It makes...

Will Apple Phase out OS X?

After thinking about it, my opinion is this guy is exaggerating. I do anticipate an iOS device sitting somewhere between the MBA and an iPad. It might look like a souped up iPad with a wireless keyboard/trackpad option. Additionally, Apple will put more emphasis on software distribution...

OK, you can burn a boot disk, so installation is likely to be a lot like we do now. The problem of getting the Lion download remains. A Mac or a hackintosh still needs to connect to the app store. So instead of saying only retail SL DVD's are supported we say only downloads of Lion from the...

OLD - DSDT Database Update: Gigabyte Socket 1155

Re: DSDT Database Update: Gigabyte Socket 1155 - H61/H67/P67/Z68 An SSD will not do anything for Geekbench. It is strictly a CPU benchmark. However, you will see the difference immediately, by the seat of the pants, so to speak.

Will Apple Phase out OS X?

http://www.pcpro.co.uk/blogs/2011/06/07/is-apple-planning-to-kill-off-mac-os-x/ This guy thinks Macs will transition to ARM processors and iOS so that Apple can get a cut from the app store.

But can it be turned into a bootable disk to allow installation of Lion on a bare drive? I honestly think if you trash a drive and don't have a back up somewhere, it will not be possible to rebuild from scratch.
