    RAM for ga-z170x-designare + i7 6700k

I'm running 64GB (4x16) of PC3400 Corsair, at XMP timings, with no issues at all. Possibly the most stable computer I have ever built. Running I7 6700K at 4.6GHz as well.

GA-Z170X-Gaming G1 viable for new Hackintosh build?

I ended up going with the Z170X Designare. It is working out very well for me. I have not played with the Thunderbolt stuff on it. Will probably have to at some point, though. This board is rock solid for me.

My first Hackintosh build with Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Designare, Intel I7 6700K, etc

All of this should work. I have the same MB, and am using the current F21 BIOS, Sierra 10.12.2, 64GB of the same or maybe faster Corsair memory, SMBIOS 17.1, and have essentially everything working. Still need to do a custom USB-SSDT, but working fine with the port increase patch...

    GIGABYTE GA-Z170X-Designare

Has anyone mapped their USB ports and made a custom USB-SSDT for this board yet? I hate to reinvent the wheel if someone has already done it. If no one has, then I will do it at some point. My system is working basically perfectly, but custom USB configuration will be preferred to the port...

GA-Z170X-Gaming G1 viable for new Hackintosh build?

Actually, I have not started it yet. Real life is a bit busy ATM. Also, the impending availability of 1080GTX, and the inevitable delay of Nvidia Web Drivers for OS X, changes my priorities a bit. I will upgrade videocard, wait for web drivers, and then buy components for the new hackintosh. I...

GA-Z170X-Gaming G1 viable for new Hackintosh build?

Thunderbolt 3. Audio better for windows gaming. Don't really need all of the complicated overclocking stuff. I prefer red to orange. 3 m.2 slots look good, but there are more SATA available on the Gaming G1. I don't need a Realtek 1150 as I use a Hiface 2 and external DAC for Audio on the mac...

GA-Z170X-Gaming G1 viable for new Hackintosh build?

I wasn't aware if boot speed differences among UEFI systems. My current legacy-free system with GA-Z77X UP5-TH is very fast to start, even with quick boot turned off. It has been very stable as well. I am inclined to stay with Gigabyte, due to the fact that my last 2 ASUS boards have been a bit...

GA-Z170X-Gaming G1 viable for new Hackintosh build?

Thank you for your reply. It is interesting that one of the m.2 interfaces seems tied to the Intel chipset, and one to the other chipset. Or perhaps, it is neither, and just refers to the PCIE lanes that are consumed by the device, diverted from the respective SATA controllers. Other than...

GA-Z170X-Gaming G1 viable for new Hackintosh build?

Hi all. I am getting the urge to build a new machine, and am looking at the options for a very high end build, for gaming (Mac and Windoews), video and audio editing (mostly Mac), and photo editing (mostly Mac). I am considering the GA-Z170X-Gaming G1, due to its outstanding feature set, dual...

    Cooling for GA Z77X-UP5 TH

Hi all. I've been a lurker here since the Lion days, when I stopped dallying with evil distros. Thanks to all who have contributed here. I just built a new ML setup with the GA Z77X-UP5-TH. I have no substantive issues with hardware, except one. I purchased the Noctua D-14 cooler...

Mountain lion on asus extreme rampage 2 help!!

Hi. It is very easy to get this board running. Just follow the instructions for Unibeast. You should boot with -v, which will give you more useful information than a black screen. You will also need to specify PCIRootUID=0 for this board. Your videocard should be supported by default...
