No problem! Happy to hear my experienced helped you.
OCAT, I believe, should have set the MinDate and MinVersion, as I did not have to touch those entries, but never a bad idea to confirm things you know to be true so you don't wrack your brain searching for the simple solution and do a bunch...
It appears you are indeed correct. And the snapshot name includes the word "update," so that must be why it mounts as that name. The name must be converted to "Update," with a capital "U" instead of mounting the entire name string. Weird.
Yes, SATA SSDs. I did format the clones as APFS, just that after I updated the Catalina clone to Monterey, it boots just fine... just slow because of the USB 2.0 port I was using is my guess. There was a time back when, and I'm not sure it's still a thing, but when you created a bootable USB...
I don't have NVMe, I'm just using SSDs.
So the direct update worked on the main drive this morning! I'm replying on a stable running Monterey direct update.
I'm not concerned with boot times honestly because I hardly ever boot my machine unless I switch OS to Windows for gaming. I actually...
Doing some google-fu, I open Disk Utility and I can see the volume is there with an eject button next to it in the list of volumes in the sidebar. If I right click on the volume that won't show up in the Finder sidebar and select "Show in Finder," a new Finder window opens with the directory of...
I cloned my working Catalina drive to an APFS formatted SSD using a SATA to USB adapter in a 2.0 USB port on mobo.
Then made the clone bootable by copying my working EFI to it's EFI partition. The first thing I noticed is when I go to eject the drive, it tells me there are two volumes and gives...
SUCCESS! Well on the clone drive so far.
Cloned my Catalina drive to another SSD and did a direct update to Monterey on the clone using a SATA to USB powered adapter in a USB 2.0 port on the mobo. Brutal install time, but went without a hitch so far. Apps tested are working as well as Apple...
You've got a reply here above that is very good in response to your inquiry.
You have a similar build to mine as well.
I don't remember having to extract my DSDT or SSDTs to create my first Opencore build, but I could be mistaken. I just used Dortania and used their "pre-built" SSDTs for my...
I believe that "niggle" is under UEFI in your OC config.plist. If you are using OCAT as your config editor; highly recommended by the way, then you can open your config file and use the search on the top right to find the setting. Just search for "boot args" and remove the "-v" from the entry.
I will clarify what you quoted here.
You can't change your boot drive from AFPS to HFS+, and AFPS is now the required file system for the OS. However, when you are creating a NEW install, you can still format the drive as GUID HFS+ in DiskUtility and the OS installer, Mojave and above, will...
Well as far as I can tell I have zero issues with my EFI now as my system boots better with the new EFI than it ever did with the old one.
I'm just hesitant about my USB map. I'm 90% sure it's correct, but I think I'm going to do it again using Hackintool if the install on the clone drive...
Well, technically the Quirk has been doing the job since the Catalina build, I would get a panic every now and then during boot, but I don't even know what it meant, and never really researched it because if I just rebooted it would boot just fine 100% of the time after the fail. That hasn't...
Hello Everyone!
It's been a couple years since my last update, and a new dGPU is necessary.
My current build is in my sig. but here it is:
Gigabyte Z390 Aorus PRO (NOT the WiFi one)
i7-9700k
32 gb Corsair RAM
2 - 1 TB Samsung SSDs (one for Mac, one for Windows)
Current GPU - Sapphire rx 580...
https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Install-Guide/
Not sure if you have found this guide for opencore, but this is the guide I used on my current build.
Have you considered using OpenCore? Clover is still solid, however, with an older mobo, you might have more control using OpenCore for the install. I have a system with this mobo that still runs on Clover.
Ok, I went through the link you sent... I have read through this before, but I went down the list and all seems to be in order. So I'm still at a loss...
See screen shots below:
Hackintool shows correct GPU IDs:
System Info does NOT show the iGPU, as per the guide:
Hackintool shows...
I will triple check DVMT, but I'm sure it's set at 64mb... Here is a pic of my BIOS setting.
There is a second setting called "DVMT Total Gfx Mem, and that is set to MAX... Could it be as simple as perhaps setting this differently?
I do not have a monitor plugged into my motherboard. I only use...
@tech1eguy Hello!
I figured out how to dump my DSDT. I had to use the Shell in OC and point it to acpidump.efi in EFI\OC\Tools.
It wrote 256 files to the root directory of my EFI folder. I included all of the files in the ZIP below.
I changed the file suffix in the first file to ".aml" but...
I followed the guide to the letter... I used the Sample.plist and modified it with instructions for my specific platform using Proper Tree ( Z390 Coffee Lake ). Added the necessary SSDTs (I used the prebuilt ones).
I was reading about how to get a DSDT dump, but I'm not sure the best method...
