I ended up re-doing the config.plist. It's working now. I'll probably never now what I did wrong. Didn't reset NVRAM this time, didn't want to push my luck. Hackintosh can be overwhelming sometimes. Thank you for your time @Edhawk. Very much appreciated.

Thanks for your reply, unfortunately AllowSetDefault was already on. Pressing Ctrl key turns the arrow picker into a "+" sign, but it doesn't work. EDIT: I reverted to my 0.8.6 EFI, now it's working as usual, so the mac OS update isn't the problem.
