    Repurpose E5 Server as Hackintosh

Well, doesn't seem to be much interest in this board but if anyone wants to know: there must have been a problem with the UEFI, I have reflashed the same version (3.30) and now I am able to reach the installer. Credit to Cruxado as all else was following his recommendations...

    MacOS Sierra - ASRock x99 Extreme4 - Mini Guide

Scratch that, managed to get a previous version of the app from a friend and it made no difference. Has anyone else had the IOConsoleUsers error on these boards?

    MacOS Sierra - ASRock x99 Extreme4 - Mini Guide

Thanks Cruxado for this thread. I have the X99 WS and have been able to get past the ++++++ with a E5-2695 v3 using your instructions. I am currently trying to solve a reboot once I get to IOConsoleUsers: gIOScreenLockState. I think this 'could' be an issue installing with 10.12.4 and 10.12.5...

    Repurpose E5 Server as Hackintosh

So following the above mentioned thread, I've had some luck. The good news is that it doesn't have a complete fit and actually boots, the bad news is that the system reboots on the well known IOConsoleUsers: gIOScreenLockState. I have tried varying combinations of Kernel Flags. Could this be...

    Repurpose E5 Server as Hackintosh

Hi all, Been a while since I posted here as I mostly use recommended hardware for builds. However, I have recently replaced my server so have this available: CPU: Intel Xeon E5-2695v3 CPU Cooler: Corsair H105 Mobo: ASRock X99 WS GPU: Quadro 295 RAM: 32GB DDR4 ECC PSU: Seasonic Platinum...

    Installing Lion on a Dell Inspiron 1720 / 1520 [VERSION 2]

No problem. Glad it worked for you. :-)

    Installing Lion on a Dell Inspiron 1720 / 1520 [VERSION 2]

Nice, I have a better GeekBench score with this. I have been keeping my kexts in S/L/E for a while. I find it gives more stability this way with Lion.

    Installing Lion on a Dell Inspiron 1720 / 1520 [VERSION 2]

It's not that unstable. One guy uses parallels which (for version 7 and Lion) is notorious for crashes even on real macs. I used to use parallels and now use VMware. It's inferior but my system is now solid as a rock. Stick with it. The big cat CAN be tamed. ;-)

    Installing Lion on a Dell Inspiron 1720 / 1520 [VERSION 2]

Btw, I was having problems with Bluetooth today getting it to recognise and pair with a phone I have. It looks like the problem is not isolated to Hackintosh users. Open the Terminal and use this command then reboot to fix: sudo find /Library/Preferences /Users/*/Library/Preferences -name...

    Installing Lion on a Dell Inspiron 1720 / 1520 [VERSION 2]

Ahh, you see I only run XP because I use it only for the odd thing and very rarely. I guess VMWare will do for me for now - but I would really like to change back to Parallels at some point. Please let me know if stability improves with subsequent OS / App updates. Btw, it would be worth noting...

    Installing Lion on a Dell Inspiron 1720 / 1520 [VERSION 2]

Well I've been using VMWare Fusion 4.0.1 now for a few days with Parallels 7 completely uninstalled and I can report NO KP's using Lion 10.7.2. ;-)

    Installing Lion on a Dell Inspiron 1720 / 1520 [VERSION 2]

Actually, the error is correct - technically, unlike a boot volume such as your HDD, the key drive should ignore permissions (the check box when you get info on it). I suggested that command in case they were not ignored. Both partitions should be extended and journaled though. Don't feel like...

    Installing Lion on a Dell Inspiron 1720 / 1520 [VERSION 2]

This is a long shot - but do you have your BIOS set to AHCI? If it's set to ATA it can cause issues. I guess it's already set if snow leo works though. Are you on BIOS revision A09? Also try repairing permissions on the key drive. Open a terminal and type: sudo diskutil repairpermissions [then...

    Installing Lion on a Dell Inspiron 1720 / 1520 [VERSION 2]

I tried the Intel Thermal kext but it seems to make no difference in reading or temperature. Out of interest, could you use the attached NVclockX kext and use something like iStat to tell me what your GPU temp is? Mine runs at about 56c. EDIT: This post talks about undervolting to lower temp...

    Installing Lion on a Dell Inspiron 1720 / 1520 [VERSION 2]

There is no dust build up as I stripped the whole machine down when I had the T9500 escapade, so it can't be that. The machine is spottless inside :P SMC Fan Controller does not work for me, I think it needs a real Mac. Does it work for you? I checked on Intel's site and both our CPU's are...

    Installing Lion on a Dell Inspiron 1720 / 1520 [VERSION 2]

Hi Stee, Just to clarify, is this the stage where you have put the files on the USB stick and are booting from it to install Lion? Can I ask if you are using an 8GB USB stick or external HDD? If you are using an external HDD this will not work. It must be an 8GB memory stick (or larger). If...

    Installing Lion on a Dell Inspiron 1720 / 1520 [VERSION 2]

Ahh ok, that explains cool book. Ok, I will bare that in mind. If you use force64=yes then you are booting in 64bit mode, I would think. MSR tools does not work in 64 bit mode, so remove that and use arch=i386. Then it will work (no grey window). I would like to try i8kfan - if you could...

    Installing Lion on a Dell Inspiron 1720 / 1520 [VERSION 2]

I found this: http://notebookequus.blogspot.com/2008/ ... table.html The guide is not suitable for Dell DSDTs, but I believe the problem with the high temperature or at least the reading has to do with the Thermal Zone part of the DSDT. I dare not change anything though as I have no idea what I...

    Installing Lion on a Dell Inspiron 1720 / 1520 [VERSION 2]

Some more info for you - sorry for crappy photoshopping. As you can see, the MSR tools app appears to give 2 diff readings for temp. Which is correct? I just can't believe a CPU runs that hot while speed stepping is working!! Is it a problem with the DSDT conveying the info or??

    Installing Lion on a Dell Inspiron 1720 / 1520 [VERSION 2]

I still have cool book installed, but only to monitor temp. Do you think that could interfere with vanilla speed step? When you ask if my temp is displaying correctly - I do not know. I seem to have two conflicting readings. As you can see in my previous screenshot, one reading says 42c, the...
