Is it safe to update from 11.1 to 11.5.1 via system prefs?

I think I am missing something. I didn’t see a tutorial from Sniki. I also might hold off upgrading to Big Sur until I buy a another hard to do a full install. I can’t afford to lose my apps/files.

Can someone tell me if my system is Big Sur compatible? Is there a tutorial like there was for Mojave? I'm currently running Catalina 10.15.7 on a 6300 SFF, i7-3770, 24GB RAM, with a ZOTAC GeForce GT 710 graphics card.
