Summary
Audio works thru either the HDMI2 or DisplayPort connection. I don't know whether the analog ports work.
Video works on the HDMI2 and DisplayPort ports. I haven't tested the HDMI1 port in a while so I don't know if it works or not. Dual monitors worked earlier but had some sync issues...
I did add WhateverGreen.kext to /Library/Extensions using Multibeast with no noticeable change.
Since graphics seems to be working, I didn't try the GFX renaming patch. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality.
It's still up and running even with EmuVariableUefi-64.efi installed! CCC succeeded in making a bootable copy of the disk. TimeMachine is running. I've "migrated" my wife's old 2011 iMac over. Sound works thru the new monitor. It's still up and running! Gives me hope that it might be stable...
I was planning on backing up the drive today. I have a copy of Carbon Copy Cloner that I'll use. Just have to find a usable external drive among my pile of old drives.
I do have putting the computer to sleep under "System Preferences"->"Energy Saver" turned off. When it's turned on, the machine...
Whoops! Looks like I forgot to hit "Post Reply" in yesterday's "Kext_Utility" post!
The machine stayed up all night, over 12 hours total, until the power went out this morning. Once the power came back on, the machine booted back up and both the Finder and XQuartz came up correctly.
Maybe...
I used Kext_Utility as mentioned in #7 here to rebuild/repair the Kext caches and reboot. Did that a couple of times in a row and things seemed to get better each time thru. I've now rebooted three times in a row and each time both the Finder and XQuartz came up correctly! Yippee! Maybe that...

I understand the difference between the stuff in EFI/CLOVER and what's in /Library/Extensions. I don't have a clear understanding of what all of the various Kext do and how they interact. From the threads on the Forums, I'd guess that very few people do. I find finding reliable information on...
I have tried backing out Whatevergreen and SmallTree-Intel-211-AT-PCIe-GBE and revert AppleALC and Lilu to their old versions. That made no difference except my audio disappeared as expected. I then reinstalled them, except for WhateverGreen, with no change. I've compared config.plist from when...
Drats! It just rebooted on its own! :(
I had MacOS configured to let the computer sleep after an hour or so of inactivity. It was doing fine for 12 hours or so, even though it would spin up every 2 hours. But this last time it spun up, it rebooted. And exhibited the Finder/XQuartz problem...
Whoops! I was going to show what the display looks like when Finder doesn't bring up the "menu bar":
It can sit there for what seems like a long time. Probably only 10-15 seconds though. Disk LED is flashing and the fan is on pretty high, indicating it's doing something. What I have no idea...
You've been much more responsive than I'd ever expect and for that I'm extremely grateful! We all have other demands on our time, including me.
I'm not so sure it is a boot issue at all. It's acting more like a race condition is now occurring. Even if I disable X all together, sometimes the...
And for those who don't use XQuartz, it should look like:
The "good" news is that restarting XQuartz after it dies does seem to work. But why the Finder is not coming up first and/or reparenting the other windows is still a troubling issue.
Mike
It's definitely a cold boot issue. If I reboot, then the Finder comes up as soon as I login and X starts correctly. From a cold boot, when I login, I get my backgound image and NO Finder bar for 10-15 seconds. Then it shows up. 30 seconds later the X windows will show up but without the title...
And now XQuartz isn't playing nice with the Finder for some reason! None of the X windows have title bars on them so you can't move them around on the screen. So they all get stacked on top of each other in the upper left hand corner. This is the first time I've ever seen this happen. :-(
And...
Thanks for the Kext. It WORKED!!!! Machine just shut down nicely.
Now I have to go back and look at my list of things to fix to see if there's anything left other than multiple displays.
Thanks again for your help!!
Mike
I'd seen that thread about slide=0 and EmuVariable-Uefi-64 before. It goes on to suggest you install some combination of Osx-memory-fix extensions instead. So it's not clear what, if any, solution is correct.
And I haven't been able to find the individual EmuVariable-Uefi-64.kext file. I'm...
OK, I've updated AppleALC.kext & Lilu.kext to the latest versions like I thought I had before. I added WhateverGreen.kext too. Turned on FixShutdown. Rebooted. Comes up nicely. Let it sit for a couple of hours then come in and wake it up. Wakes up fine. Even the mouse cursor is visible! (It had...
The empty numbered directories didn't seem to be hurting anything so I haven't gotten around to clearing them out. I've also seen the debate over what should and should not be on the Others directory.
I thought the latest UHD630 support (in UniBeast!) didn't require WhateverGreen. But since...
