ended up fixing my audio by using a usb device... Found my old maya22usb https://www.esi-audio.com/products/maya22usb/ and it works natively using core audio https://www.esi-audio.com/products/maya22usb/ also the control panel they have to download works also.

I gave up and purchased the z370m. I found out only the Z series allows overclocking anyway, which is what I wanted to ended up switching and the default install works, albeit I'm still trying to get the resolution sorted.
