As stated earlier, I can run both screens on my gtx without artifacts and the active card is ofcourse the gtx in both scenarios.. Only reason I'm running SECONDARY screen from igpu is so I can be able to see the bios this way and set up without changing the dvi cable.. If I connect both screens...
I think you can boot with 2500 just no qe I think. But yes ioreg is useless. I'm only interested if someone has igpu enabled but still glitching gtx, in this case ioreg should shed some light .
btw are you dropping Mats ?
Tomorrow I will retry my setup with igpu disabled to examine my smbios...
My speculation is that it does have to do with opengl. When I had the problem it always started with safari or youtube. When I fullscreened something the glitching tend to disappear. Anyway, we need to do some more testing to come to a conclusion but I have no other motherboard at the moment to...
I did try downclocking to 835Mhz.. The problem with this approach is that you have to manually edit the vbios so you can disable the boost table completely. After several tests me and l154 made, this is not possible with the editor tool.
I have a custom bios with fixed boost table now and can...
If you actually have an igpu (which in your case is true) then yes smbios is a hack. But if no it would only bring you closer to a real target. Native power management is easy to inject no matter the smbios although, I would not consider it a deal breaker. Actually I'm so happy since I figured...
for me the problem is resolved for sure.. If you have no way to choose Init Display on bios and it is only autodetected, there are other ways to force that via efi or mod the bios. At this point I'm planning to try again with mac pro 5.1 smbios and igpu disabled to see if it makes a difference...
I did also a/b nvidia web driver and osx default and there is no difference in artifacts. Although the osx driver seems to be more stable and better. I'm right now using webdriver though without a problem.
x58 is interesting.. Yes just IGPU does the trick.
What I'm thinking now though is, if this whole situation is smbios dependent. Try to find an mac pro without internal graphics and use this smbios. I'm not sure if this would do it but it is a good start. I think this whole situation is because...
Ok, Just disappointing . Although the glitches are now much less and manageable they are there... I have definitive ways to trigger them, you could work two hours straight without a single glitch but just by opening a certain app everything goes bananas. I managed to disable boost, just by...
Yeah I tried it too to find out the golden frequency which is not stock but not overclocked enough to glitch everything but it is not easy and the performance gain is so tiny, that I was really bored fast and just clocked to nvidia's stock.
Update: After 3-4 hours started glitching again while...
and the answer is......../
Bios editing :p
(I'm not aware of any way to software underclock on mac. sorry.)
(Do not fear Vbios editing. If you have windows installed on the same pc just download kepler editor and nvflash. If you don't, run a vm or a real winpc and create a freedos...
I'm really not sure why this problem became so big in this version of Osx, but I have to reassure you that this problem existed in every version I've tried from 10.10 till today. Although the problem was only inside apps on the previous versions, (people doing rendering and live rendering like...
