    << Solved >> Motherboard choice for simplest install - Z370 Z390 era?

Thanks for the explanation! I do find learning new things very time intensive, but I'll have a look at Dortania's guide. As it's going to be my last Hackintosh build, the learning curve of a new set of things seems a lot. If I have trouble with Clover I'll try it though :)

    << Solved >> Motherboard choice for simplest install - Z370 Z390 era?

Thanks! RX 580 is the plan; I have an RX 570 in my current build, and the 580 prices are pretty reasonable just now.

    << Solved >> Motherboard choice for simplest install - Z370 Z390 era?

Update: I found an ASUS Prime Z370-A ii, with an i7 8700! I'll report back on how it goes, but there is already a successful build with this motherboard so I'm optimistic :) https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/success-asus-prime-z370-a-mk-ii-i5-9600k-sapphire-pulse-rx-580.295824/

    << Solved >> Motherboard choice for simplest install - Z370 Z390 era?

Right! Thanks for explaining that, I think I understand now. Plus I'm reading the guide linked by pastrychef. A couple more times through and I might properly understand! :) Great tip that most ASMedia controllers are natively supported, thank you! So the Z370 boards with an additional...

    << Solved >> Motherboard choice for simplest install - Z370 Z390 era?

As I said above, it's taken me years to get up to speed with Clover, so I don't think I can cope with the learning curve for a whole new bootloader etc, but I appreciate the advice, thank you. I won't use the 3rd party USB thing. Thanks for the link to the USB configuration Beginner's Guide...

    << Solved >> Motherboard choice for simplest install - Z370 Z390 era?

Thanks for your reply! I'll look for an ASUS Z370 board then, thank you. Narrowing that down is really helpful. Good to hear that configuring USB is relatively easy! So would I just need 3rd party USB 3.0 from Multibeast for, say, Asmedia USB? Or is the Remove XHCI USB Port Limit patch...

    << Solved >> Motherboard choice for simplest install - Z370 Z390 era?

Thanks for your reply! Yes, there's no benefit for me that I can see with Catalina, and I'm not going to try the later OS versions that are even more complex to get working! Wow, that's really useful information about the port limit (which I'd seen references to but not understood), and the...

    << Solved >> Motherboard choice for simplest install - Z370 Z390 era?

Hello, I'm looking for some help choosing a motherboard for what I guess will be my last Hackintosh build! My current system (which I've had since 2014) I hired someone to build, so though I've built up some knowledge in the meantime, getting a new system feels quite daunting! I've grown...

Sierra Multibeast kext install fails / When is a kext update actualy needed?

Update: In the end, I kept the El Capitan kexts for Sierra and High Sierra and all worked fine! Having problems now I've upgraded to Mojave, only in that the app store crashes, which I see from posts on here can be a kext issue. Everything else I use, mainly Logic and audio type software...

<< Solved >> Anyone using the "Sandbox" feature in Super Duper?

Update: Well, I did indeed install Clover /El Capitan on a new SSD, and I restored my data from my Time Machine backups. All went smoothly, hurrah! Since then I have updated to Sierra, High Sierra and now Mojave, using the .app update package each time. I did create a 'Sandbox' partition, and...

First timer - Can't get to installation screen

If Sierra is a year too old for the CPU, maybe try making a new UniBeast USB with High Sierra? From what I've read on here, Catalina is more complex for the hackintosh. I've just updated to High Sierra, and Apple are still updating the apps on this OS, so it's not too old either. :)

Sierra Multibeast kext install fails / When is a kext update actualy needed?

As part of my recent upgrade from El Capitan, I successfully updated Clover to r4173 using Multibeast 9.2.1, the one recommended for Sierra. Once I'd got Sierra installed, and was considering upgrading to High Sierra, I thought that I should probably update my FakeSMC.kext, and I have read on...

<< Solved >> El Capitan: update straight to High Sierra, or go to Sierra first?

Further update! I have now successfully updated to High Sierra, following the guide: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/update-directly-to-macos-high-sierra.232707/ I followed the "Alternative Guide: Update Directly to macOS High Sierra (HFS+)" option, as I didn't fancy having to maintain a...

<< Solved >> El Capitan: update straight to High Sierra, or go to Sierra first?

Update: So, I've successfully updated to Sierra! I've noted my experience below in case it helps someone. First I made a Unibeast boot USB stick just in case, and checked that I could boot from it, following the guide...

<< Solved >> El Capitan: update straight to High Sierra, or go to Sierra first?

Hi, I'm currently on El Capitan (with Clover), and I want to update to High Sierra using the .app installers, so that I can update my Logic Pro X (the App Store demands that I have 10.13.6!) I've read the OS updates guides, but I'm not sure whether I need to update to Sierra first? The...

    [SOLVED] UniBeast doesn't recognize Sierra

As of January 2020, this link now downloads the .dmg version of the installer, which will not work with Unibeast. I've been through a lot of searching to find how to get the .app versions from El Capitan onwards (I'm only now updating from Mavericks!) - turns out it's from the 'Building a...

<< Solved >> Anyone using the "Sandbox" feature in Super Duper?

Does anyone have experience of using the "Sandbox" feature in Super Duper (drive cloning software), which lets you use a separate partition to boot from, while maintaining the original boot volume? I am thinking this would be really handy for trying out updates, kexts etc, without having to...

Dual-monitor with Intel HD Graphics 4600: Grey screen after boot

I also have had this problem with 10.9.2, and updating to 10.9.4 seems to have fixed it. Previously I also got stuck at the grey-screen-with-mouse-cursor when booting, using HD 4600 graphics. I have one monitor on DVI, and one on an HDMI to DVI cable (HDMI at the motherboard end). Like rio2...
