Quick update. I did a few things and the problem mysteriously disappeared. 1) Unplugged FireWire HDD. 2) Installed USB3 front panel ports and attached headers to MOBO. No works. Shrug.

Plot thickens. I can log in remotely with Screen Sharing and everything is fine. If the computer goes to sleep (or is put to sleep), when it wakes up keyboard and mouse work just fine and dandy. I'm really thrown through a loop.
