Just so people know. I successfully updated my customac Yosemite. I did a clean install of Catalina on the same hardware as I did my Yosemite setup five years ago. It was surprisingly easy. I followed the installation guide to the letter.

Hello, I had the same problem and I installed the kexts mentioned above with kextbeast. It works, my ethernet ports are all working properly. Thank you
