Nvidia dedicated GPU: G-Sync vs Optimus?

From what I have seen on the GTX 1050/Tis, I don't remember seeing any model from Clevo(or any other brand) with hardware mux... since the 1050s usually only show up in the low to mid-end gaming laptops, they are probably not "high-performance" enough to warrant the extra hardware change cost...

Nvidia dedicated GPU: G-Sync vs Optimus?

The newer P650HP3"-G" model has G-Sync like the P650HP6, but most builders are still using the older non-G model. By the way, the dual HDDs are only possible because they use two SSD drives, otherwise only a single mechanical HDD can fit in there. Even RAID0 and RAID1 setups are offered in...

Nvidia dedicated GPU: G-Sync vs Optimus?

It looks like both of the MSI 7RD and 7RE are using dedicated GPU only without any switch, same design as the Asus. But ouch, those are in a much higher price bracket... No, mine is stuck at customs... had to apply and pay for a radio frequency import license, even though the same wifi &...

few questions on Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming (7567) Ok idea or meh?

If you don't mind the now older GPUs, there are some great deals on the 9-series Maxwell models with gen i6 Intel CPUs. I believe there are models with switchable Optimus towards the high end of the gaming laptops. But you have to hurry, since most of them are now "discontinued by manufacturer"...

few questions on Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming (7567) Ok idea or meh?

Oops, forgot to update this thread. I picked an Asus laptop instead, since the DELL lacks dedicated graphics under OS X. And *No*, the 7000 gaming 7567 does indeed have Optimus, and it's not the user-switchable kind. So if you are looking for dedicated GPU under OS X, don't choose the 7000...

    Laptop Compatibility

As far as I know, only some high end MSI models (some with the GT prefix) have the hardware mux to allow user-switching after a reboot. The GS series uses the standard Optimus setup (through Intel HD) and there is currently no way of using Nvidia GPU in OS X. If you want to get a new laptop to...

Nvidia dedicated GPU: G-Sync vs Optimus?

Just to update of my findings after spending many days on this... I have decided to go for a Asus GL502VM-DS74 with a dedicated GTX 1060 GPU with G-Sync for internal display. The other two models I had my sights on were Clevo's P650HP3 and P650HP6 series based laptops. The main difference...

    Where can I get BCM94352Z

I am trying to find a M.2 A-E-keyed BCM94352Z/DW1560 card. There are bunch of them on ebay and alibaba but most of them have a long shipping time(~1 month) and might arrive after my travel date... I don't want to pay over double the cost just to get it shipped a week or two faster... Is there...

Failing Macbook Pro - Late 2011

depends on your expectations of the build... Probably just the SSD if you got one in normal wear condition, otherwise for a ~5+ yrs old mechanical hard drive it'd have a high failure probability. It used DDR3-1333 memory so it's probably not usable either unless your build is not exactly "new."...

Failing Macbook Pro - Late 2011

I got mine replaced too at the last minute of that extension (my date of purchase hit first), also a late 2011 model. If I read the chips right, I might have gotten a new board replacement of a recent run. Few chips on the board have date codes of late weeks of 2015... but the laptop is in a...

Failing Macbook Pro - Late 2011

As far as I know there are two major camps of explanations, I am not sure if this is an issue with the Nvidia chip or the soldering underneath it, or both. My guess is the soldering, since fixes related to it improved my problem every time. Neverthelss, since you are out of good options, the...

Nvidia dedicated GPU: G-Sync vs Optimus?

that's probably the same as the GL502VS line. these laptop makers have terrible model naming schemes... does that mean when you close the lid it keeps running? or does it hang or die or something? yeah, more fun! now excuse me I have to go bang my head against the wall...

Nvidia dedicated GPU: G-Sync vs Optimus?

I am looking for an OK capable laptop to run some 3D stuffs so I need a dedicated GPU like Nvidia, not the integrated "IGPs." After some head-scratching research, I think I am getting closer to start looking for laptop brands and models. My needs of this laptop running OS X, relevant to...

    3930k @ 4.7Ghz on Asus P9X79 really slow

Not sure what you have running, but my "memory pressure" is usually lower than yours (from your screenshot) after a fresh reboot. My guess is that the OS's memory compression is affecting the benchmark. I only have experience with CINEBENCH, but here is the result of my experiment...

Post OS X Cinebench CPU and Graphics Benchmarks

Post OS X Yosemite Cinebench CPU and Graphics Benchmarks I don't know what Yosemite uses to determine old vs in-use data in memory, but when there is not enough free memory, some of CINEBENCH's memory gets compressed even when the application is in focus. I guess the lesson here is that if...

sRGB color profile gets loaded first.

Well, here is my 2 cents since you asked for "anything..." Found your post when I was dealing with my own contrast problem. Are those images tagged with a color profile? Preview respects embedded color profile and CoverFlow might not (my guess). As for Safari, I can only assume that the sudden...
