high pitched squeal after installing SSDT

I think if I switch to the iMac smbios file I can make that go away. I tried it earlier and it didn't help. I'll try it again later and add it to my list.

    Yes, I did try that.

high pitched squeal after installing SSDT

I tried all four combinations of DropSSDT and GenerateCStates. I left GeneratePStates set to no in all cases. I already tested the GPU was not the source in two ways. I used a rolled up paper tube to generalize the source, and confirmed the sound does not go away when the GPU is under load...

kounelos, I really appreciate your going to all this effort. Unfortunately the squeal is still present with your tweaked files. :(

high pitched squeal after installing SSDT

Sure. They are unedited defaults, though. The DSDT is from the database on this site, and the SSDT is the i5 default from MultiBeast. DSDT: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2412771/hackintosh/DSDT.aml SSDT: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2412771/hackintosh/SSDT.aml

high pitched squeal after installing SSDT

My situation is a little different. I never get the noise in Windows, regardless of C3/C6, which I have on in my BIOS. The only time I get the noise is when using a SSDT file.

high pitched squeal after installing SSDT

I just discovered something else. I reinstalled Chameleon (using the DSDT from the DB) because my BIOS was reseting when I rebooted after sleeping. That is now fixed, but the squeal no longer goes away after sleep. :(

high pitched squeal after installing SSDT

I tried DropSSDT with no effect. GenerateCStates was already on. I guess that is the default? EDIT: I did this wrong the first time. This time, I removed the PStates line, the SSDT and added DropSSDT, which is what I think you meant. That makes the noise go away, but performance isn't quite as...

high pitched squeal after installing SSDT

Strange. It works consistently for me. I've tested it three times. Sorry it didn't work for you. :(

high pitched squeal after installing SSDT

I discovered that if I put my machine to sleep and then wake it up, the noise goes away. I still get my normal geekbench numbers, so the fix is still in place, but for whatever reason, after waking from sleep, it is quiet again. If I reboot, the squeal returns. It is possible it will return...

high pitched squeal after installing SSDT

Ever since installing the tweaked SSDT from MultiBeast for my i5-2500 (no K) I've regained excellent performance, but I've also gained a near constant high pitched squealing noise, the source of which I can't identify. (though it is coming from the CPU area...) The noise goes away when the...
