Hi All --
I just wanted to report on a problem that arose over the last couple of weeks. My iMessages abruptly stopped working. The symptoms were:
1) I could not send or receive SMS texts or iMessages on my Hack, but everything was operating normal on my normal Mac, iPad and iPhone
2) In the text entry bubble, it displayed "Text Message" instead of "iMessage". The only exception was when I selected myself. However, when I tried to send myself an iMessage, I would get a "Not Delivered" error
3) I tried signing out of my Apple ID, removing my Hack from the Devices list, then signing back in. iMessages would try to sync from the server. I could see activity in that my "Favorites" avatars would cycle through their historic pictures. Interestingly, the "Text Message" would briefly change to "iMessage" than back to "Text Message" as if to suggest that it could connect, but that there was some sort of block that was overriding the connection.
4) All my other iServices could work, like AirDrop, SideCar. I didn't try FaceTime but calls that were received on my iPhone were listed.
5) The ability to unlock my Mac with my Apple Watch was disabled. When I tried to re-enable, I got an error message that my Mac couldn't communicate with my watch.
Everything seemed to be suggesting (to me) that Apple turned off access to the iMessage server with my serial number. I finally fixed it by generating new serials, following @trs96 's tutorial here
So far, iMessage is working again and my Apple Watch is reconnected. But it was very strange, and my only explanation is that Apple blacklisted my previous serial number.
