Hello i have been running a gigabyte z97 ud5h mobo with a core i7 and a gtx 960 for long with no issues. however as nvidia has ended support recently for certificates my gtx 960 drivers no longer work and i would like to change my graphics card. i have been out of touch for upgrades for some time and would like your comments on buying a new card which can support mac os big sur or monterey or catalina. i cannot change my mobo gigabyte z97 ud5h bk edition and my 4 th generation core i7 processor and i cannot afford a very costly card, just something above the gtx 960 which can support the latest os or a lower version of mac os higher than high sierra. any inputs will be of great help.

The RX 460 / RX 470 / RX 480 / RX 560 / RX 570 / RX 580 support Catalina / Big Sur / Monterey.

The RX 5000 series (5500 XT / 5600 XT / 5700 XT) also support Catalina / Big Sur / Monterey.

The RX 6800 and 6900 supports Big Sur 11.4 and later, and the RX 6600 supports Monterey 12.1 and later.

The RX 6000 series is current, while the others are phased out and only second hand cards are available.

You can also use the CPU integrated graphics from your CPU. If you choose this route you can save the cost of a discrete graphics card.

Thank you so much for the information. Much appreciated. Just a little question. Are the cards you mentioned supported out of the box ? i just install the drivers and it works ?

Radeon drivers are built-in for macOS so that's why users had to wait for Apple to add the drivers in updates. Apple wrote drivers for GPUs, not AMD.

Also notice that some Navi 10 and 21 GPUs require the boot argument agdpmod=pikera.

Thanks for the update. the boot argument you mentioned will it still give full hardware acceleration of gpu ?

It renames board-id to board-ix to disable boardID checking, effectively preventing a black screen by some RX 5000 and 6000 series GPUs.

i however havent been able to download monterey yet. any idea where i may get this ?
