Gigabyte Z390 M Gaming build with working NVRAM

So...

I updated the BIOS to 9L with no problems and changed various settings as listed on the 1st page. I did the Disk Utility to begin to create the USB device. I then pasted the string into the Terminal window. It returned:

password

followed by a key icon. However, it will not let me type anything in? I’ve never seen this before? What do I need to do?

Are you sure it's not letting you enter the password?

In terminal when I do this (i.e. with any sudo command) the key symbol appears and there is no visual indication I am typing in my password - but hitting return after entering password works.

So I think you are typing (assuming you have the terminal window 'on top' i.e. active window) and it's working as expected, you are just waiting for visual feedback that is not there. It's normal behaviour.

You can test by opening terminal and entering e.g. sudo top .

That’s bizarre! I’ll try again and I’ll see what happens. Other times when I‘ve done a Terminal command, there is a result. This is quite different...

What you said worked, but the result was:

sudo: /Applications/Install macOS Catalina.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia: command not found

I did a cut & paste, so the command string was correct.

For the record, I'm on an iMac that is maxed out on High Sierra...

When you enter the password, you will not see anything appear in Terminal. You must enter your password "blindly".

Are you installing Catalina or Big Sur? If Big Sur, you need to change the "Catalina" to "Big\ Sur" in the Terminal command.

Catalina

I have a USB device with the Install Catalina file...
