Hello,

I just built a new system for my home setup.

ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming
32GB Corsair Ram
Nvidia 970
480GB Patriot Ignite SSD

When running World of Warcraft, I get some weird stutters at time when moving around. It feels like the game freezes for a second and then comes back and starts running fine again, aside from the stutter, the graphics are rich and the FPS is fine. I am looking for some advice on fixing the stutter.

I was thinking at first that maybe the SSD was having a hard time keeping up w/ the request for data. I ran several hard drive throughput tests and everything seems fine there.

When I load Windows 10 on another SSD drive and run WoW, everything runs smooth without a hiccup.

I feel like I am missing a small tweak.

I have another Hackintosh system at work with similar Hardware, but w/ a Nvidia 950 and I have no issues at all running the game.

Any help is appreciated.

Update:

Changed System definition to 17,1 and installed a new 1070 GTX, and the system still has the same problem.

Little update:

When I got to work today, I checked out the spec on my work PC, and it is a:
Gigabyte Z97-UD5H
i7 4790
32GB Ram
GTW 950

Going to take the computer home from work today and throw the 950 in the new computer to see if it has the same issues, as well as putting the 1070 in the work computer.

Are you running WoW on the old OpenGL API or the newer Metal API? You should definitely be using the latter. Check the in-game settings and perhaps play around with various effects to see if one in particular seems to be triggering the issue.

There is very little change between the two. I normally run Metal, but have tested both.

I have found that lowering the "Drawing Distance" helps a quite a bit, but doesn't alleviate it completely. My mystery is why my work one is flawless with inferior hardware across the board. I wonder if I am missing some setting or kext on my new PC

Another Update:

I brought home my work computer and these are the results.

Original - Work Computer
GA-Z97-UD5H
i7-4790
GTX 950

Original - Home Computer
Z170 Pro Gaming
i7-6700
GTX 970

Work Computer w/
GTW 950 = No Lag, very smooth
GTX 970 = No Lag, very smooth
GTX 1070 w/ updated Drivers = Touch of Lag, Mostly Smooth - Performance drop from the 970

Home Computer w/
GTX 950 = Lots of Lag, Very rough
GTX 970 = Lots of Lag, Very rough
GTX 1070 = Lots of Lag, Very rough

I have went through the process of uninstalling Nvidia Web Drivers going back to 10.12.4

Looks like for the time being, my computers are swapping places. Would like to figure out the differences between the 2 computers. Must be a BIOS / Kext issue.

I notice one main difference is the new computer requires EmuVariableUefi-64 to be loaded or the Nvidia drivers won't work. Would it be possible to go with a MBR boot loader and get around that? Maybe this item is messing up video? Is there any other way around using it?

Hi dwest,
i´m not a gamer but use my pc much for video-stuff and it seems to me that it may has to do with the motherboard z170. I get only useable gpu acceleration results on my computer when i use the igpu intel hd 530 together with my 980 ti (in bios igpu first..). When i only use my geforce gpu i get lot of stutter on videofiles. I searched in many threads and it seems that as i already mentioned it maybe has to do with the z170.
Greetings
