Hello,

I currently have a windows 10 machine that I use for gaming. My mac laptop (which I use to make music in Logic) is getting old and is no where near as good as my PC. I found a few guides about dual booting but they start with blank systems. I want to use my windows as it is and install osx on a SEPARATE HD.

Here's my windows setup:
- Asus Sabertooth Z87 LGA 1150 Motherboard
- Intel i7-4770K Quad-Core 3.5 GHz (OC'd to 4.0GHz)
- Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) CL9 @1.5V UDIMM 240-Pin Memory
- 2x (SLI) EVGA GeForce GTX780 SuperClocked w/EVGA ACX Cooler 3GB
- Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 1000W 80 PLUS Gold Power Supply
- Samsung MZ-7PD128BW 840 Pro Series 128GB SSD
- TP-LINK TL-WN881ND Wireless N300 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 300Mbps
- LG Electronics 24X SATA Super-Multi DVD
- Corsair Hydro Series Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler H100i

My Questions.
1. I didn't see my parts on the list here on this website. Does that mean I'm out of luck?
2. Whats the best way (point me to a link) to install osx el capitan with my current windows build on a separate HD?

I think that's about it. Thanks!

1. No, you can install OS X on your hardware - I currently have an Asus Z87I Deluxe with i5 4460 running Sierra
2. Disconnect the Windows drive. To install El Capitan follow guide https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...pitan-on-any-supported-intel-based-pc.172672/

See https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-multibooting-uefi-on-separate-drives.198869/

To make sure you can boot Windows from Clover, first determina if your Windows is installed UEFI or Legacy mode (click Start->Run and type msinfo32 and hit enter. Resulting screen will tell you if you are using Legacy BIOS mode or UEFI mode.)
Install Clover same mode as Windows.

Alternate methid - get a hot swap bay - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00856XFUS/?tag=tonymacx86com-20
This allows you to just swap the OS you want to use now into the bay and remove it later if you want to boot the other OS. It is what I use on most of my desktop builds.

Thanks for a clear and concise answer. I hope to try it this weekend while my GF is visiting family :)

Hi, so I got every up and running but when I boot up clover and select install from External... the screen just goes black

Disconnect discrete GPU, connect to board graphics port DVI, HDMI or DP. Boot to UEFI and set First Init Display to iGPU or iGFX depending on how it is named in your boards version of UEFI and set iGPU memory to 64M, save&exit, continue boot.

Thanks for another speedy answer. It's so weird but I think I got it figured out. I went back and made the USB boot disc and this time I used the UEFI mode and it worked! I checked in my windows and it said to was running legacy, so I'm confused but happy it worked.

I am using sierra on my pc as I type this. The only thing I can't figure out is how to change the resolution.... it's locked to 1280x1024.... EDIT: fixed this by disabling the boot command in clover for nvidia cards

aaaaand now I restarted my comp and osx wont boot without clover USB.... is that how its supposed to be?

Did you run MultiBeast post install to install Clover to the HDD/SSD or run the Clover installer to install Clover to HDD/SSD? Rember that you must install Clover Legacy mode for it to boot Windows in Legacy mode.
