OK. Easy one this and completely ssdt free.

I basically installed everything without a DSDT because I could not get one to work at all with any one of three different BIOS flashes.

Gave up and went DSDT free.

All I did was grank the multiplier from 32 to 45, memory performance enhance to 'Extreme' and set the command rate on the RAM to t=1 and it just worked. Everything is working clearly using the HW monitors going between 1.2 GHz and 4.5 GHz as needed.

Geekbench got up as high as 22300 ish last night and cinebench scores are at the top of the chart.

I was having a really hard time trying to get the DSDTse to fix SSDT errors and then read somewhere that an SSDT for a x79 board is basically cosmetic so I tried without it and it worked just fine.

Temps got up to 71 but its on air at the moment. It will be water cooled when it gets put in the case - I'm aiming for 4.8 :)

I have a similar set up, so I'm hoping to get up to around 4.5, wish me luck :)

MorganB,

Is sound working on your machine? How did you do it?? Which BIOS are you using for the UD3? I have your exact same hardware, but I'm having a doozy of a time trying to get sound enabled. Most of my attempts have been without a DSDT. I'm just now trying to use a couple DSDTs from users who have posted them on this forum. So far, nothing but KPs.

Thanks for taking the time to advise a total noob!

EDIT: I just saw your other post. I suppose you used a class compliant DAC for audio. Was that your ultimate solution? Which exact device did you purchase? I, too, am into "injury time" on this build. I'd still appreciate any moral support you can offer...

I have the same setup and have attached the full instructions and files that you need (or should need, all hack's seem slightly different). Shout out to gxsolace for the solution. When you get this up and running can you let me know if your esata ports are working...mine are not. Do NOT enable XMP profile for RAM (if applicable)

Instructions:

Get your bios settings right:
disable Gsata ports
Turbo Mode: Enabled
EHCI hand-off: Enabled
XHCI hand-off: Enabled
Wake On LAN Disabled

Step 1 Unibeast [success]
followunibeast instructions to create USB thumb drive

Step 2 Install [success]
GraphicsEnabler=No npci=0x2000*darkwake=0 PCIRootUID=0 to boot to install disk

(if you can't boot try UseKernelCache=No)

Step 3 Post Installation
change boot order to boot to OS drive. Boot by typing in the previously mentioned flags

Step 4 Setup
a) Run Mac OS Combo update for 10.8.2
b) Run MB (as per attached settings)
C) replace all of the contents of the extra folder with the one attached
e) Goto S/L/E (systems/library/extensions). Right click FakeSMC…goto plugins and delete GPUsensors

To get sound working:
a. Delete AppleHDA from S/L/E
b. Put Patched AppleHDA (from Interim 898_Lion_AppleHDA file) on desktop
c. Run Kextbeast
d. Repair Permissions
RESTART

If you can't boot without UseKernelCache=No then patch the IOAHCIBlockStorage.kext that is attached

Thanks for your input! I've seen your posts on other threads regarding the Gigabyte X79-UD3, and GXSolace too. I spent several days looking for a solution to my sound card woes, each time starting from a clean install and carefully following a new set of instructions. What didn't render my machine completely unbootable didn't fix the problem either. Finally, out of desperation, I restored my system to a working (albeit mute) Time Machine backup and purchased a USB DAC (Behringer UCA202). Perhaps the USB peripheral is a little inelegant, but it works great and requires no drivers! The wife and I streamed "Brave" from Amazon on my Hack last night with no problems!

I have reason to believe that there may actually be something wrong with the sound chip on the motherboard. When I boot into Windows 7, I repeatedly get the error message "You have just unplugged an audio device from your system," even though there wasn't anything plugged in to begin with. I've tried disconnecting the front chassis ports from the motherboard and rebooting. Reloading the driver for Windows doesn't fix the problem either. An RMA for this board may be in my future, but I am loathe to disassemble the whole computer!!

Apparently I have a DSDT in the Extra folder, but I don't recall where it came from. Its probably the one I got from MiniITX here. All I know is that my system finally works and I'm not going to mess with it anymore! The boot flags in my org.chameleon.Boot.plist file are as follows:
• GraphicsEnabler=No
• darkwake=0
• PCIRootUID=0
• npci=0x3000

My eSATA ports are working at full speed. I wish I could help you diagnose why yours are not, but I have no idea! All my BIOS settings are currently just the "optimized defaults".

The esata ports are not working because I disabled the Gstata in the bios. Once I reenabled everything was working fine.

what cooling system is everyone using? I have a kraken X40 and it does not seem to be doing the job. (temps above 80 on loads). I am wondering if it is just because I can't boost the profile of the system or if I just need more cooling power (H100i).

Morgan, How are you getting it to maintain just on air? I am new to overclocking and thought that it was all about the components and placement, but I am wondering if it is because I can't manage the fan speeds and liquid cooler profile. Am I missing something (I have push/pull going with kraken X40, two top exhausts, lower push, and fan inside blowing at the CPU...my HWmonitor only shows me the speed of one fan.

Really need some help here.

4.8... damn what are you using your computer for again?? lol :banghead:
